LEADERSHIP PIERCE
Economic Development Day

The Leadership Pierce Class had an action-packed session on September 24. The day was spent learning about economic development in our community.

Local guest speakers, including Chad Nimmer, Matt Carter, James Jacobs and Tommy Lowmon, discussed timber and agriculture, industry expansion, retention and recruitment, and downtown development. As Georgia Power's community and economic development manager in the South Region, Scott Purvis spent the day with the leadership team. Scott supports local communities through leadership development, strategic planning, existing industry retention and expansions, and with new companies considering an expansion or relocation to the area.

The economic development session ended with a tour of one our largest private employers - Composite Research. The Composite Research campus spans over 10 acres and is home to a modern and environmentally friendly 90,000 square foot production facility. Since 1994, Composite Research has crafted top quality skiff boats, bay boats, and flats boats. Through consistent innovation, this manufacturer says its goal is simple - "to build the best boats possible for our customers." Thank you, Wally Bell, for investing in our community.

The next Leadership Pierce Class will be held on October 15 at Eagle Station where participants will focus on quality of life issues during our Community Living Expo.
