LOGO-Romanza Monthly Gatherings
Next Romanza Gathering
Tuesday, February 9, 5:00-7:00 PM

Please join us Tuesday, February 9, from 5-7 p.m. at Corazon Cinema and Cafe 36 Granada Street.

This networking event is open to ALL individuals and cultural organizations, members and non-members alike. As always, members attending the Gathering are invited to announce their upcoming events. And members are cordially invited to bring a friend.

These Gathering mixers are a unique and comfortable opportunity for the creative community to socialize, communicate and share ideas and information. You'll meet fascinating people from St. Augustine's Arts, Culture, Heritage, Attractions and Business organizations.

Registration for the 2016 membership year will be available.  Current members may pick up their membership benefit of Free General Admission tickets to the Celtic Festival.

To entertain us, we're very excited to present the talented Flamenco guitarist, Gerry Brummer!  Gerry became involved in Flamenco when living in Europe (thanks to the U.S. Army).  After earning a degree in fine art, he had the opportunity to study with Dego del Gastor and his nephews in Spain, where Gerry also painted.  The style of Gastor reflects the traditional country music of Andalusia. After a long career in business, he is now renewing his art and music interests and we are very pleased to be part of that renewal.

And speaking of entertainment, after the Gathering why don't you order one of their famous sandwiches and stay for the 8:00 pm Comedy Night show at Corazon!  This is a live performance and a very cool addition to all the other events happening at the Corazon.

A CLASSIC THEATRE presents

Zora?  Marjorie?  Who are these women?

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings is well known to Florida readers as the author of "The Yearling" (1938) and of  "Cross Creek" (1942).  A woman who came to Florida from the North and fell in love with the flora and fauna of rural Florida...it became her refuge.

Zora Neale Hurston is a New York-educated writer, born in Alabama and raised in the all-black town of Eatonville, Florida. She came to prominence during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920's and was noted for her personality, wit and writing talent.  Zora returned to her roots in Eatonville to collect stories and write about the folklore of the region.  Among Hurston's acclaimed books are "Their Eyes Were Watching God" (1937) and "Dust Tracks On A Road" (1942).

"They saw themselves as renegades and as daring, and they loved adventure," said playwright Barbara Speisman.  "They were two women who were from very different worlds."  They both lived in St. Augustine.  And despite the prevailing climate of segregation, they became friends!

Speisman's play imagines the first meeting of these two headstrong women in 1942, both at the height of their success, at Rawlings' upstairs apartment at the segregated Castle Warden hotel in St. Augustine, and their ensuing conversation over "tea" - a colloquialism for whiskey!

''I've never been more entertained than I was today," Rawlings said in a letter after this first meeting.
