I can't believe that February has slipped upon us; but, it is already here! My first thought was this is the love month since Valentine's Day is crouched in the middle of the month. As I continued to think about events and observances in February, I remembered that this is also the one month of the year that is designated to celebrate "Black" History. In this leap year, we have an extra day of opportunities to give emphasis to significant contributions and people, reflect on their achievements and share love and appreciation for their sacrifices.

So, here is what I want to offer for your consideration.  Love can be the common thread that runs throughout the entire month.  As I reflect on it being "Black History" month, it's easy to feel the love and appreciation for those ancestors who came before me, and paved the way for those of us who followed. Because of our experience and intellect, we became inventors, entrepreneurs, lawyers, doctors, educators, and more. Our people pressed on and persevered during a time when the majority society did not make it easy for us to even exist, let alone excel.  And yet, we did. How can any of us think about the many accomplishments of our forefathers and foremothers-- under the most adverse conditions--and not feel a great sense of pride and love for them all?

So, let's be intentional about raising the level of awareness among ourselves, as well as others who are in our midst. In addition to raising awareness, let's all agree to seek our highest level of being. Let's agree to live a life that continues to show love for ourselves in a way that promotes our best.  That my friends, will be our greatest expression of love and appreciation to both God and those who have given their lives to create a better world for us.  Think about it and then, just do it!
