Western Canada Sexual Assault Initiative

The work of the Western Canada Sexual Assault Initiative continued forward when all project partners met in Winnipeg in June 2015.  EVA BC is teaming up with sister organizations from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta to improve responses to sexual assault through the development of an inter-provincial collaboration strategy to share knowledge and best practices.

EVA BC Executive Director Tracy Porteous,   Research & Projects Manager Kate Rossiter and Training & Policy Manager Christina Entrekin Coad participated in the 2-day meeting on behalf of EVA BC. They also attended the one-day Federal-Provincial-Territorial Status of Women Forum,  Sexual Violence Knowledge Exchange, on June 17th where Tracy participated in the panel, Perspectives on Reporting and Disclosing Instances of Sexual Violence.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Help Anti-violence Programs

Dixon Transition Society staff gave IBEW volunteers top marks for their knowledge and enthusiasm!

Last year, EVA BC was approached by the International Brotherhood of Electricians Local 213, who were inspired by the Be More Than a Bystander campaign and wanted to do something to help anti-violence organizations and women who have experienced violence. They had several ideas about how they could help and volunteering their time and skills on small building improvements was one of them. Well, they recently did just that!

Thank You, Chelsey!
Chelsey Lee, a senior undergraduate student undertaking a double major in Criminology and Psychology at Simon Fraser University is completing her practicum placement with EVA BC over the summer semester. During her placement, she has assisted in writing a forced marriage risk assessment framework for the anti-violence and settlement sectors, in partnership with MOSAIC. As well, she is conducting research and analysis surrounding the topics of vicarious trauma and resilience. Thank you, Chelsey, for supporting the work of EVA BC.  We wish you all the very best!

Cloverdale Pharmasave Supports EVA BC!

Cloverdale Pharmasave once again chose EVA BC as one of their charities of choice when they held an "Aging Gracefully" event at their store on June 27th. Admission was by donation with part of the proceeds going to EVA BC.

CKNW talk show host and EVA BC supporter Maureen McGrath was the featured speaker at the event and our Program Manager Laura Woods was also on hand to share information about the work of EVA BC.
