Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel Project


On February 1, 2016, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel District issued the final Request for Proposals for the Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel Project.

After a series of proprietary meetings with each of the four shortlisted design-build teams, approved comments and changes have been integrated into this final document, which has been approved for issuance by the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel Commission.   Click here to view the final Request for Proposal.

Section 103 Concurrence Approval Received


The United States Environmental Protection Agency has issued Section 103 concurrence approval to transport and dispose of  dredged material from the proposed construction of the Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel Project at the Norfolk Ocean Disposal Site (NODS). This approval will be valid for a three-year term, beginning January 15, 2016.  Use of the NODS after January 15, 2019 will require further evaluation of the proposed dredge material.
