AnnouncementsAnnouncements

By now you've all heard about
3 lovelies at our last Valentines Party
the upcoming Winter Volunteer Appreciation Party. The party will be at Kitchen Angels on Thursday, February 11th from 6-8pm. We'll have a talent show during dinner, so if you'd like to show off a bit, please contact Teresa. We will be serving several varieties of soup, bread, and salad. We'll also have a dessert contest. Bring your most stellar sweet for all to share.  Maybe yours will be the greatest! Prizes will be awarded.

Please RSVP here by Monday, February 8th if you plan to attend. This will be one party you don't want to miss!

Word is out that Kitchenality is one of the  finest kitchen and entertaining re-sale stores in the area, and t he only one that deals primarily in unique and delightfully affordable kitchen and cooking items. Since opening in mid-December, we've pulled in a fair amount of revenue that goes directly to supporting out meal delivery program. If you have new or gently used kitchen and entertaining items that you don't use anymore, please donate them to Kitchenality. We can always use more flatware, mixing bowls and family heirloom items that are no longer in use. Remember, one person's trash is another's treasure! You can donate items Monday through Friday, 9:30 - 5:30.

We're starting to recruit ambassadors for Angels Night Out. In case you don't yet know about this exciting event, here's some information . . .

April 21st, thirty restaurants
Save the Date: APRIL 21st is
Angels Night Out this year!
in Santa Fe will donate 25% of their food sales to Kitchen Angels. Each restaurant will have a team of volunteer ambassadors who welcome diners, tell them about Kitchen Angels, and give out donation envelopes that double as entries into a drawing for a fabulous prize. Ambassadors typically  bring in more money each year than the restaurants donate! If you'd like to get your foot in the door to be the ambassador of a particular restaurant, just email Lauren or sign up in the office. Some people have already signed up, so it's never too early! Thanks.
Tasty TidbitsTastyTidbits

A youngster's first foray into the world of fondue. He wants it everyday now.

We often think that Valentine's Day "owns" February, but there's more to the month than just chocolate hearts! Little known fact: February is National Fondue Month. Yes,that's right, and there's more to fondue than bread and cheese! Read on . . .

Fondue has its origins in 18th century Switzerland but really came into fashion in the west during the 70's. Most fondue consists of two varieties of cheese, wine, and cornstarch to keep the cheese from separating. Once melted, you can dip cooked meat, bread, and vegetables. Click here for some amazing recipes. Of course dessert fondue is just as fabulous with melted chocolate as your dipping medium. Pinterest will supply you with all of the visual inspiration you need to throw a terrific fondue party. Kitchenality always has fondue pots on display- pick one up today and impress your friends!

To help with your dessert entries at the Volunteer Appreciation Party here are some ideas Valentine's Day treats. You just can't go wrong with these.

Special Volunteer Opportunity...

Free George Winston concert for volunteers who work the shows!

This opportunity will go quickly! On Friday and Saturday, February 5th & 6th, pianist George Winston will be performing concerts at The Center Stage CSL located at 505 Camino de los Marquez. We're looking for two volunteers for each evening's performance to sit at an information table and let people know about Kitchen Angels and sell George's merchandise.  Proceeds from the sales will be donated to Kitchen Angels. We participated in this event last year and it was a beautiful show. If you'd like to volunteer, please contact Lauren ASAP so she can get you the information. Thanks!

$1 a month will solve our paper bag crisis!

Kitchen Angels is short on paper bags. Ever since grocery stores started charging for paper bags, Santa Feans have finally started to use their re-usable bags.  While it's great for the environment, this means fewer bags for us to re-use. Here's an idea that can put an end to our shortage . . .

When you go to the grocery store, pay $1 extra and ask for 10 paper bags. When you're done using them, flatten and bring them in to Kitchen Angels. If every one of our volunteers did this only once each month, we wouldn't have to purchase them ever again. One dollar is very little to spend compared to the $900 a month it would cost Kitchen Angels to purchase them outright! Please help us by chipping in a buck a month for bags. (Psst- ask your friends, too!)

Are you 55 or older and already volunteering at Kitchen Angels? Chances are, if you're reading this, then both apply since the majority of our volunteers are over the age of 55. The city of Santa Fe has a special program that offers volunteers some fairly impressive perks. RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer) Program encourages people 55+ to volunteer in their communities. The program is currently focused on encouraging people to help end hunger in New Mexico.

By signing up with the RSVPProgram, you can access such benefits as supplemental automobile liability and personal injury insurance during service hours and accidental loss of life coverage. If you get into an accident while delivering meals, the added insurance will fill in the gaps of your own insurance policy. RSVP also offers trainings and workshops throughout the year. They host an AARP Safe Driving Course free of charge. Many auto insurance companies give discounts to individuals who have completed such courses. They have been known to give gas vouchers to members who drive as part of their volunteer job. RSVP is known to show a lot of gratitude to their participants in the form of gifts, banquets, and recognition. If you're interested in enrolling with the program, please contact Triston Lovato at 955-4760 or email her at [email protected].
A New Year and a New Board of Directors

Every January brings a new slate of officers to the Board of Directors.  While Stephanie Gonzales will continue as President, Jim Brack is now First Vice President and Elva Busch is Second Vice President. Haila Harvey continues as Secretary. Ginny Selvin, our newest board member, was elected Treasurer.  Ginny is no stranger to Kitchen Angels, having served as our bookkeeper back when we moved into the Angel Depot.  Now that she's recently retired, Ginny wanted to come back to Kitchen Angels.  Congratulations to each officer and thank you for your commitment.

If you know someone who would like to serve on our board, have them contact Tony McCarty at [email protected].

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Thanks

We've said it at least a million times, but here goes one more . . . We are so deeply grateful for each of our volunteers. We couldn't serve so many people in need without your tireless service. Our community is healthier because of the meals you prepare and deliver each week. We'd like to take a moment to thank the 121+ new volunteers who started working at Kitchen Angels in 2015 and so far in 2016. It's a special kind of person who takes time out of his or her busy life to work on a cause for the betterment of humanity. Our volunteers are some of the kindest and most altruistic people around. Thank you for contributing your precious time to Kitchen Angels.

Just a few angels who recently received their wings: Marilyn, Henrich, Chris & Ann. Thanks guys!

Many people don't realize that volunteering gives back just as much, if not more, than the amount given. If you are aware of this phenomenon through your own volunteer service, then why not share your story with others? Over half of the new volunteers who started last year heard about us through existing volunteers and word of mouth. Please let your friends and family know how special volunteering at Kitchen Angels is. Click here to learn more about our 2015 Volunteer Statistics.
