QUOTE OF THE WEEK

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Super Bowl Subs - Pick up your order this Sunday!
Sunday, February 7
Thanks to everyone who has ordered a SPY Sub for their Super Bowl festivities (or just for lunch!).  Subs will be available -- with some extras -- on Sunday, February 7 between 10:45 and 11:00 AM in the parish kitchen.  They are $10.00 each.  Checks can be made out to St. Paul's Youth.  And if you haven't ordered a sandwich yet (turkey, ham, or veggie), it's not too late!  Email orders can be sent to Lisa Schnell at Lisa.Schnell@uvm.edu by the end of the day on Wednesday, February 3.
Be a Sponsor for SPY (St. Paul's Youth)!
SPY will travel to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota in April.  Eleven youth will work with Re-Member to build outhouses, repair roofs, build handicap accessible ramps, or whatever is needed.  This will be a service trip as Pine Ridge is situated in the second poorest county in the US but it is also educational as we learn about the current plight of Native Americans in our country and the history behind it.  The Reservation has no Episcopal congregation at this time but we will meet with several practicing Episcopalians there and have a day of silent retreat at the end of our service learning week.  We need full and partial scholarships for all to attend. Please consider helping us by 'sponsoring a youth' and then you are invited to attend a dinner, Friday, May 6 th at 6 pm .  This will give you a chance to sit and talk with the youth personally about their service and share a meal prepared by the youth.

If you have questions please ask Marti Churchill martha.churchill@burlingtontelecom.net or Jeanne Finan.

Lenten Retreat - Walking the Pilgrim Way of Lent

A time of retreat led by the Very Rev. Jeanne Finan
Friday, February 19: 6:45-9:00 p.m.
Saturday, February 20: 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

As we step forward into a Holy Lent, we begin on Friday evening with a short introductory reflection and then the showing of the film THE WAY, a fictional chronicle of a pilgrim walk along the Camino de Santiago in France & Spain.  We gather again on Saturday morning, February 20 to spend time with scripture, silence and guided reflection. A simple lunch of soup and bread will be offered to participants.

This is your own Lenten journey, so you are welcome to attend only Friday evening, only Saturday, or both segments of the retreat. There is no fee for this retreat but you do need to register. A sign up sheet is available in the Narthex of the Cathedral.
Keeping a Holy Lent...
House of Bishops Theology Committee Announces New Online Daily Meditations for Lent

This Lent, the Theology Committee of The Episcopal Church's House of Bishops invites you to examine unsustainable patterns of consumption and self-interest that have contributed to economic crisis. Repairing the Breach: Discipleship and Mission in a Global Economy, produced in partnership with Forward Movement, provides free daily meditations and videos, and covers topics ranging from employment and consumerism to food and the environment. Daily meditations move through a pattern of reading, watching, reflecting, and praying, and each week of Lent is devoted to a particular aspect of economic life. The Theology Committee of the House of Bishops invite you to recover and renew your economic imagination this Lent, and to learn about specific practices where the Spirit of God is moving in local congregations and communities to bring new life.

Visit repairingthebreach.forwardmovement.org to learn more and watch for the first meditation on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 10.

We invite you to share in the 2016 Lenten email series from Episcopal Relief & Development.  Each day during Lent you will receive a daily reflection, co-authored by a group of respected leaders from our international programs and across the Episcopal Church. During this season of reflection on our Christian faith, their writings will enhance your spiritual journey as they both inspire and challenge you.  Each daily meditation is presented in both English and Spanish.

Silent Auction
SAVE THE DATE: Friday, April 29
The Silent Auction t o benefit JUMP, VIA and other social justice ministries of St. Paul's Cathedral  will be on April 29 but it is not too early to think about what you might be able to donate. Hopefully you may have some readily presentable items at home that you might want to donate to our auction. If you don't have items at home to donate perhaps you know of a business that might be willing to donate something to our auction to benefit two non-profits like JUMP and VIA. You might have a special talent and can make something to donate. Next Sunday, February 7, during the Ministry Fair, donation forms will be available. The cut off for donations will be April 10 this year but its not too early to consider what you may be able to do.  Also next Sunday, the last Sunday before Lent, you can buy Auction tickets. If you are among the first fifty buyers you will be eligible for prizes. Tickets will not be sold during Lent so get your tickets early and you might win a prize!
