Multi-purpose activity centers will meet many needs

"This building will probably be the most used on campus in terms of number of hours," said Kevin Ozee, AISD director of athletics, about the future multi-purpose activity centers now under construction at each of the AISD's six high schools. "I don't think the community realizes how special these are going to be for each campus."

TRANSFORMATION THROUGH
INNOVATION
Shackelford Junior High librarian enhances makerspace with Transformation Through Innovation grant

Six junior high boys crowded around four bananas connected by wires to a laptop. The bananas, when touched, played notes like piano keys. It was a lesson in basic circuitry that quickly captured the boys' attention. Soon they were connecting the wires to other materials - like keys and chocolate bars - to see if they could be turned into piano keys and conduct electricity too.

Bond construction update
Facilities Update
Bond-related construction is in full-swing. In fact, by next summer, 44 schools will have construction projects underway or already finished. The bond is also funding several new districtwide facilities, along with two new elementary schools.

Click below for details about the projects currently underway.

Strings rooms will be added at each elementary school
Fine Arts Update
Each AISD elementary school will receive an acoustically appropriate strings room, funded by the 2014 Bond package.

While construction of the strings rooms will not begin until late this spring, careful thought and consideration have already gone into planning them. Fine arts are a major priority in the AISD and the district is committed to giving all of its students the opportunity to receive an outstanding music education - beginning at the elementary level.

AISD implementing classroom technology standards
Safety, Security and Technology Update
After lots of planning, the technology component of the 2014 Bond package is now being implemented. At the outset of the bond package, the AISD technology department developed  technology standards for all classrooms. The department originally planned to implement these standards across the district over the course of two years, but is now aiming to get it all done in one year and a half.

New buses improve safety
Transportation
Over the course of five years, the AISD is ordering 114 new school buses, funded by the 2014 Bond package. These new buses contain a variety of features that enhance the overall safety of the AISD's fleet.
