to Collaborate with
MKM in Mindfulness Research

Mindful Kids Miami is pleased to advise you
about our extraordinary new venture.

MKM's Research Committee, chaired by MKM Board of Directors member David J. Lee, Ph.D., Professor and Researcher, Department of Public Health Sciences, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center... and the Research Department at the Center for Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts Medical School, directed by Judson Brewer, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry at the UMass Medical School, have agreed to collaborate in MKM's upcoming Research Study.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of MKM's 2015-2016 training program in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) entitled: "Inner Journey - Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (IJ-MBSR), A Professional Development Pilot Program for M-DCPS Teachers and Administrators." The study seeks to determine if IJ-MBSR training results in reductions in stress levels and burnout and improves mood, levels of compassion, and the cultivation of a more mindful orientation to life.

Our collaboration aligns strongly with the CFM mission to:
  1. support rigorous scientific research and innovation;
  2. serve as a resource for education and professional development; and
  3. create and support a global network of mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) practice and research.
This multipurpose infrastructure is designed to support rigorous, federally funded research projects on mindfulness practice and outcomes, such as randomized clinical trials and large scale, long-term observational cohort studies.

Our secure and protected study will be launched by MKM on the CFM's new INDRA-M© system on Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap). This innovative, global system allows for the compilation of data in aggregate form offering greater information and insight on the benefits of mindfulness practice.

About Mindfulness-Based
Stress Reduction
(MBSR)

MBSR is a clinical and secular discipline which cultivates moment-to-moment awareness and emphasizes compassion. The now vast body of evidence-based research studies conducted on MBSR beginning in 1979 have proliferated around the globe by researchers dedicated to healing and the efficacy of this work.

Internationally acclaimed MBSR is the foundational training upon which the programs offered by Mindful Kids Miami are based. Used by educators, healthcare providers, children and teens, MBSR was pioneered in 1979 by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., Professor of Medicine  emeritus , University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society, a scientist, author and teacher.

Mindful Kids Miami, Inc. (MKM), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2011, is dedicated to bringing mindfulness training to all children, grades Pre-K through 12, in Miami-Dade County. The intention of Mindful Kids Miami is to assist schools and childcare organizations to teach the skill of mindfulness to children and teens in school classrooms both public and private; hospitals and other healthcare centers; and, institutional settings.
