February 2016                                                                                                                                        Issue #114

Hello Neighbors,

Helping Feels Good and that's why hundreds of our South Florida neighbors are registering to volunteer their special talents and skills at www.helpingfeelsgood.org  If you are a nonprofit organization that can use talents such as web design, yoga classes, gardening, art lessons, repairs, music or any number of special skills, contact [email protected] to sign your nonprofit up and start entering projects.  We want to provide services and skills to improve quality of life for those you serve. Volunteers to help with your nonprofit needs also available.

This year our National Parks System celebrates 100 years.  Did you know that we have the largest Marine Based National Park in the entire system, right here?  Biscayne National park consists of 172,000 acres of submerged lands, with hundreds of species.  Even seahorses!  In the coming months, we will be showing you around this precious resource, introducing you to the inhabitants and some of the scientists who study them.  Take a look at the video below, by Colton Chase, for a sneak preview.

Thank you, from all of us at Neighbors 4 Neighbors

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better.  It's not".

Board Member Spotlight!

We are thrilled to introduce you our newest Board Member,  Russel Lazega.  He has worked with Neighbors 4 Neighbors for many years behind the scenes, and was even honored at our 20th Anniversary celebration back in 2012. We are honored that he has agreed to join our leadership team.
Professionally, Russel is lawyer living in North Miami Beach, Florida.  He is a columnist for the Aventura News and the author of several nonfiction publications, including Florida Motor Vehicle No-Fault Law and Practice (PIP), the nation's leading treatise on Florida car insurance law that stirred tremendous excitement throughout Florida's sprawling community of insurance agents and insurance lawyers. His newest book Managing Bubbie is his first foray into creative nonfiction and a great look at caring for an elder member of the family who survived almost insurmountable odds.  When he's not writing, or chasing after what he calls, a pair of fire-breathing, house-wrecking T. rexes impersonating small children, he can be found kayaking the waterways of South Florida, venturing as far as the tide will take him from his loving, but indescribably overbearing, family.

Congrats again to Michael Goodman who was honored this past weekend for all the amazing work he does in our community.  We are honored to have him as our cherished board member and excited to share this honor with you.

Every donation you make is processed by our heros at Berkowitz Pollack Brant. We can't thank them enough for their support this year.  Together we are able to make a greater impact in the community.

Neighbors 4 Neighbors is a non-profit organization 501 (c) 3 originally created by CBS4 in 1992 in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew. As South Florida recovered, CBS4 made a commitment to make Neighbors an integral part of its community service program.  Using the power of television to reach people who want to help and by forging relationships with important community and business leaders, Neighbors has evolved into a valuable resource for individuals and families in our community facing critical needs.
