meeting of the new year! More than 35 members and guests came to hear one of TTN's talented authors,
Pat Shapiro, talk about her latest book,
The Privilege of Aging. Pat shared inspiring thoughts from some of the 12 women she interviewed and some of their strategies to ensure their cup is always half-full.
Our favorite is the approach one of Pat's interviewees takes when thinking about some of the activities she can no longer enjoy: her inability to hike means no more blisters on her feet and not riding her bicycle means no more aching leg muscles.
Our February meeting features
Ruth Greenberger, President of the
Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe who will present an overview of this important organization and volunteer service.
See more details in the next article, including information on the
book swap!
We hope you'll join us!
Please plan to enjoy more socializing at our
New Member Tea on March 19 which will be held at the house of our founder, Jean Palmer.
Last but not least, our Programs Committee needs a new Coordinator since Judy Donahue has moved over to Membership. Please e-mail us with your questions and ideas: [email protected], [email protected].

February program:
SHARING THE JOY OF READING + Book Swap!
As Frederick Douglass said,"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free."
TTN welcomes Ruth Greenberger, president of the Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe.
Did you know that 34% of adults in Sant
a
Fe are functionally illiterate according to the
2010 census?
....and 32% speak little or
no English. For 30 years,
Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe have been providing free tutoring to adults in our community. Ruth Greenberger, current board president of Literacy Volunteers, will talk about her experiences as an ESL tutor and about the organization.
Ruth Greenberger is a retired educator with 40 years of experience as a teacher, school principal, and education consultant. She has tutored several individuals and groups of students for Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe, and she is clear that her life has been transformed by the experience as much as her students' lives.
BOOK SWAP AFTER PRESENTATION!
To add to our celebration of the joys of reading, we will have a book swap. Each person please bring a book with your name in it. Discover and chat with the owner of the book you choose. Refreshments will be served during what should be a fun evening!
