Message from the Executive Director

As we enjoy the holiday season in Hamilton, it's easy to appreciate all our community has to offer. Wonderful shops and restaurants, festive events, and our historic downtown are just a few of the reasons we can be grateful that we have such a place to call our own.

The PCD is proud to be part of the community and to promote its vitality. We have a busy year ahead of us as we work to encourage and promote local entrepreneurs, improve our recreational amenities, and create more housing opportunities. It is important work that we are excited to undertake!   So, in celebration of Hamilton, please accept the PCD's wishes of good cheer this holiday season.

Happy Holidays!

Executive Director, PCD

PCD is delighted to inform you we will now have a monthly column in the Mid-York to keep you informed on the happenings of the PCD.  Look for us on the 3rd Thursday of the month beginning in January.

PCD ANNUAL APPEAL

We at the PCD joined the National Day of giving, GIVING TUESDAY, by launching our annual appeal on December 1st.

In addition to our traditional letter writing coming to your mailbox soon, we have added a second way to give through this newly developed on-line donation page.

One of our supporters asked if we expected community members to give twice? While we hate to discourage anyone, that is not our expectation.  We have simply added an online means to support the efforts of the PCD.   Our donation page, http://partnershipforcommunitydevelopmentgiving.causevox.com/, is secure and donations come directly to us.  Thank you for considering us an organization worthy of your support.

Foggy morning.

But I have promises

And miles to go

Introducing our Intern Extaordinaire:  Woohee Kim

I am a sophomore at Colgate from Seoul, South Korea. I am majoring in educational studies and am interested in social justice and inequality. At Colgate, I am part of the Student Senate, OASIS (Organization of Asian Sisters in Solidarity), and intern at the ALANA cultural center.

Coming from a big, bustling city of 10 million people to Hamilton has been a transition, but I fell in love the small-town charm of Hamilton.

I am interested in exploring community development and non-profit work, and hope to learn about these fields through my internship with PCD. I'm really excited to be part of a community-based organization like PCD and serve the Hamilton community that I've been warmly welcomed into.

****We are so lucky to have Woohee on our team.... she is diligently working on a thorough review and documentation of the history of the PCD along with a number of other tasks. She enthusiastically attacks every project with attention to detail, meticulous research and a big smile.***

Recreation Initiative.... Kick Off Meeting has us inspired!!!
To promote and expand the Hamilton area's recreational amenities, PCD and a list of many interested parties is undertaking a
comprehensive recreation initiative. The project intends to make physical improvements to the existing trail system and to promote use of the area's recreational resources by enhanced accessibility. Consistent signage, a user-friendly website, and enhanced marketing of the resources are all part of the project.

Project Goals:

1) To create a consistent signage system for all recreational activities in the area.
2) To create a comprehensive website that makes information about recreational amenities
more readily available (similar to http://gocaz.com/).
3) To improve the physical conditions of the Chenango Canal Towpath.

If you would like to be involved in this initiative, please contact the PCD to learn about opportunities to join an avid group of recreation-minded individuals.
Mini-Grant Recipient 2: The FITT Stop

Located right on 12B, owned by Cory and Jim Schoelfield,  you can almost feel the sweat and enthusiasm coming out of the building as you drive by on your way to Price Chopper for the week's sale ice cream (or maybe that is just me?).

The FITT Stop applied for a mini-grant to add new weights and a privacy screen in their gym facility. This new equipment added to this great facility with their top notch instructors teaching a wide variety of group fitness classes in a warm, inviting atmosphere where there is no judgment - only FUN fitness.  The owners of the FITT Stop operate using the FITT principle,    Frequency, Intensity, Time and Type. Cory and Jim use these guidelines to help clients set up a workout routine meets personalized fitness goals.

FITT Stop also offers Personal Training and nutritional counseling for those that need motivation to get started and accountability to keep you on track until you reach your personal fitness goals.

The FITT Stop offers something for everyone and your first class is always FREE!!!
