December 2015

The Sweetheart Ball  February 13, 2016

Do you like to dance?

Do you like good food, good drink and a good time?

Do you like the chance to get bargains on art, vacations, adventures and toys?

Do you like to see if you still fit into the Tux you bought in 1995?

Do you like to party?

Do you want to have a special evening to remember with your Sweetheart?

If you answered yes to any one of these questions then the Sweetheart Ball is an event you won't want to miss.

This year there will be more great prizes to auction than ever before.  More plane rides, more ultralight adventures, vacations at exotic places like the North Carolina seacoast, Miami Florida, and an island in New Hampshire.  All this plus great art, some wonderful antiques, and services to help you with all kinds of things.

Reserve now.  Get together and make a night of it with your friends - you can reserve a whole table or a romantic spot for just the two of you.

Sign up now for this great event at the Belmont Country Club on February 13.  The Sweetheart Ball is a great way to have exciting time and support the Foundation.  What a great way to ring in Valentine's Day.  Could be your lucky day.

Town Meeting

A spirited town meeting was held on December 1, 2015 to discuss the financial situation that the Waterford Foundation is in as a result of the cancellation of the fair and to hear opinions on some of the proposed actions that the Foundation was considering and implementing.

You have received an email detailing the meeting and the actions that came out of it.

One of the action items that came out of the meeting was the need for a Strategic Plan and for a way to include as many constituents as possible in the preparation of that plan.  Stay tuned for more information on the plan as we move forward.

Storch Property

Another chapter in the Storch Property journey has closed.  The Waterford Conservation Associates, a group of people dedicated to keeping the property preserved and protected forever has completed the purchase of the property and there is now no danger that it will become a business which could disrupt both the character and tranquillity of the village.  We are fortunate to have people who had the determination to preserve the property and thank them sincerely for their work.  We all know it was not an easy task.

The plan at this point is to divide the property into two parcels and sell them, but with easements that will prevent any future uses that are not in character with the environment.  The Foundation Board has welcomed this effort to preserve the property and has approved the establishment of access easements across Foundation properties.

The House and Barn are ready for sale and we will send out an email to all Foundation members and interested parties as soon as all details are known. If you know anyone who might be interested in purchasing them please let us know and we will put them in touch with the LLC that now owns the property.

Day of Giving

The Foundation participated with a nationwide Day Of Giving and did very well.  In 24 hours we raised over $24,600, including matching grants the total was $28,640.  We want to thank everyone who helped us on that day.  We were humbled by the response and appreciated the contributions of everyone.
We especially want to thank the people who gave $1,000 or more and are now part of our Landmark Society.

Landmark Society

We would also like to thank the members of the Landmark Society - people who gave $1,000 or more - for their support right after the cancellation of the Fair through to our Day of Giving.  The goal of the Landmark Society is to get 100 members by next year's fair.  We're well in the way to that goal.  Thanks to all the early contributors, it's still time before year end to join this distinguished group.

Staff News

We bid a fond farewell to staff member Chelsea Kashani, who has left us for another position.  Chelsea performed wonders in streamlining procedures and increasing efficiency in the Foundation office, and was always a delight to work with.

While we are certainly sorry to see her leave us, we're sure you all join us in wishing her well in her new endeavor and expressing our gratitude to her for her stellar performance over the past year.  She has joined a large Foundation in Millwood, VA which offered an opportunity to use her skills and expand her knowledge.  We all will miss her positive attitude and quality work.

Happy Holidays

All of us at the Waterford Foundation would like to wish you and your family the happiest of holidays and a prosperous New Year.  We all hope that 2016 will be a great year and we're praying for good weather, especially the first week in October.

Don't forget there are great presents available at the Corner Store.  You will be giving a piece of history and supporting the mission of the Foundation.  Click here to see the items  for sale on line:     Corner Store

Memoriam

We were all saddened to hear that long time Waterford Homes Tour and Craft Exhibit Volunteer Robert R. (Bob) Schotta III passed away on November 5, 2015. A Memorial Service was held December 5th at St. James Episcopal Church in Warrenton.   Bob served as area chair of Schooley Mill for over 20 years.  He was a dedicated loyal fair volunteer.  The fair would not be possible without the support of people like Bob and he will be greatly missed.
