Happy New Year! The new year represents renewal and is a great time set goals to better our lives and the lives of the individuals living with dementia with whom we work.
This year, DCPA hopes you will
resolve to care for yourself the way you care for others. Take time to do things that give you meaning and seek out opportunities to grow professionally, whether it be through taking a class, attending a lecture or conference, or connecting with colleagues.
DCPA's newest professional training and certification program, "AFA Partners in Care: Supporting Individuals Living with Dementia," is full of information and strategies to help you in this pursuit. Learn more about this exciting self-study training program here.

2015 "Dementia Care Professional of the Year" Award Winner Announced
DCPA is excited to announce our 2015 Dementia Care Professional of the Year award winner! Teryn Clarke, M.D., is medical director of Alzheimer's Family Services Center in Huntington Beach, Calif., and a

Upcoming In-Person "AFA Partners in Care" Training at AFA Headquarters
AFA will be offering an in-person "AFA Partners in Care" dementia training session at its headquarters in New York City on two different dates: February 1 and 22. Open to all professionals, the dynamic, one-day training session will strengthen your knowledge of dementia and help you develop innovative communication and caregiving techniques. Sessions will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Cost is $95 per person and lunch will be provided.

New Telephone-Based Caregiver Support Group
AFA's Social Services department will be hosting a free telephone-based support group this February for family members of individuals living with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias. Facilitated by a licensed social worker, the caregiver support group will be held on Wednesdays, February 3-24, from 3-4 p.m. EST. Learn more, download a flyer to share with families, and register

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently released its annual report, "2014-2015 Alzheimer's Disease Progress Report: Advancing Research Toward a Cure." The report provides an overview of recently-funded research and initiatives related to Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, as well as progress toward meeting goals set forth by the National Alzheimer's Project Act (NAPA).
