Dear Reader,
It's Thanksgiving week and we have some great things for you to know about!
First, we'll be closing at 4 on Wednesday.
Second, Friday is
Plaid Friday, the day to get out shopping at all of your local independent stores and get much of your holiday shopping out of the way. Black Friday is for the malls, Plaid Friday is for Oakland and all the amazing shops, stores, merchants and artists that are available to you!
We will be hosting Jessica Nowlan of
The Create Shoppe from 11 to 1 and she'll be helping you make an ornament or a card, all the materials will be here, for just $5. Check her out and ask her about hosting a crafty party for the season, a birthday, or any fun gathering. We'll also have drawings for books and treats all day.
Next up is
Small Business Saturday. Again it's a day when you can show your support and appreciation for the small businesses that are working hard to find you the best and most wonderful wares all year long.
Plus we will have three guest booksellers this year.
11am
Pamela Turner, author of many children's books including Hachiko and Project Seahorse, will be here to show you her books as well as recommend titles you may not know you need! Bring your science minded kid.
2pm
Patricia Bracewell, author of two amazing historical novels, Shadow on the Crown and The Price of Blood, will recommend books for grown ups as well as talk history if you like.
3:30pm
Ilona Bray will join us. Ilona has authored legal books with Nolo Press such as Nolo's Essential Guide to Buying Your First Home and also authors an immigration law blog. Again we will have drawing and treats all day so please come by!
We have two barrels to fill for the Alameda Food Bank. Bring food for the barrels on Friday or Saturday and enter to win a $50 Laurel Book Store gift certificate!
Someone suggested that we should each donate half the cost of our Thanksgiving meal this year to the Food Bank. I think that's a splendid idea and our household wrote and sent a check this morning. If you've donated to the Food Bank this week, brink us proof and we'll put you in the drawing too.
Happy Thanksgiving and we'll see you this weekend.
