"Just doing our jobs."
Dear Friends of CFPA,
I love watching that awkward moment when a first responder or other hero has to accept praise and attention for his or her actions.  "Just doing my job" is my favorite, humble response.

Here you will find our second-ever annual report. For over 22 years of California Food Policy Advocates' existence, we did not publish an annual reporting highlighting our successes or shining a spotlight on our team's historic, change-making efforts:

  • Did our policy actions to remove policy barriers to CalFresh participation bring billions in federal nutrition benefits and help reduce food insecurity?  Sure.  Just doing our job.
  • Did we give parents the confidence that child care settings are healthier through our historic policy action to remove junk drinks? Just doing our job.
  • Did we provide increased access to free and fresh drinking water to school children throughout the state?  Again, just doing our job.

With our organization's continued efforts toward transparency and inclusiveness, we must challenge our humility and share this annual report which provides readers an opportunity to learn more about what California Food Policy Advocates has accomplished and what we plan to do:

  • Led the efforts to paperlessly enroll a half million students in free school meals in 2015.  Just doing our job.
  • Planning to bring the power of after the bell breakfast to hundreds of thousands of students?  Working to close the summer hunger gap?  Bringing new resources to families without safe drinking water?  Ensuring that charter schools have plans for feeding students?  Just doing our jobs.

In this report, you will also learn more about the CFPA team, particularly our new staff. As a non-profit organization, your support, in any amount, is critical to achieving our vision of a healthy and hunger-free California.  And your support helps support this terrific team to do their jobs.

Here are some ways you can support us to "just do our jobs." PDF

Best wishes for a healthy 2016,
