July 2015
Volume 6, Issue 1

Greetings!

Another fiscal year has come and gone, but we are so grateful for the wonderful experiences and opportunities we encountered over the past year. We extend our deepest appreciation to our Steering Committee, Health Promoters, community partners, volunteers, and community members for a successful year. Our work would not be complete without the support we receive from each and every one of you. We look forward to a great Fiscal Year 2016 (FY2016)!
That's A Wrap!

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month!
In May 2008, the U.S. House of Representatives announced July as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. Many communities face unique challenges or barriers when addressing mental health issues. Challenges such as cultural stigma and language barriers are often seen in minority communities.

Interested in Getting Involved with AAHI?

Our Steering Committee is comprised of 17 professionally diverse individuals from the local community who advocate for, advise, and assist AAHI. In FY2015, they helped make our mental health efforts possible by advocating to County officials and policymakers. The Steering Committee will come together in the fall for a retreat to plan and discuss their vision for FY2016.

There are 28 bilingual and dedicated advocates on our Health Promoter team. As gatekeepers to their respective communities, Health Promoters help reduce cultural and linguistic barriers to accessing health education and services in Montgomery County. They allow AAHI to better understand and serve the County's Asian American population.

AAHI's Steering Committee and Health Promoters make a huge difference in our work in the Asian American community! If you would like to join these efforts, please fill out the respective application form from our website and email to [email protected] or fax to 240-777-4564.
Sincerely,

AAHI Staff
