Congratulations to Meleny Gutierrez! She was all smiles outside of the Schab & Barnett Law Office after settlement on November 20th! Proudly showing her new keys, Meleny is shown here with Executive Director, Kevin Gilmore, and Board President, Scott Lanham. "We couldn't be more excited for Mel and her two beautiful girls," said Gilmore. "They'll be home for the holidays! And we certainly all wish
them the best in their new place!"

Jay Gundy, Joan Deaver, Judy Lawson, and Michael Smith |
Our Development Director, Jay Gundy, recently accepted a generous check from Georgetown-Ellendale VFW Post 2931 to benefit our 2015 Vet Build. The presenters included Councilwoman Joan Deaver of Sussex County Council, Judy Lawson of the Georgetown-Ellendale Ladies' Auxiliary, and Michael Smith, VFW 2931 Post Commander. "We so appreciate everyone who has contributed time, money, and materials to this year's Vet Build," said Gundy. "It's generous gifts like this that make it all possible."

On a chilly November morning, our "regulars," a group of construction volunteers, gathered for a home dedication in Ellendale. They've gathered like this many times before - almost every Wednesday and Saturday at our various build sites over the years - and for over 100 dedications like this one. They gather in all kinds of weather - week in and week out - and work together to make a difference for our Sussex County neighbors. These volunteers each have served with us for several years (some as many as 10) and most have given 400 to 500+ hours of volunteer labor annually. We appreciate each one of them for the time and effort they put into making it all possible. We just couldn't do it without them!

to hear of the passing of
Paul Cataldi. Paul was one of our "regular" construction volunteers from 2004-2015.
A young man once
asked Paul why he spent every
Wednesday
and Satur
day
on Habitat build sites. "It's the look in the eyes of the partner families when they get their keys." Paul replied.
Over 90 Habitat homes bear the marks of Paul's hammer and the strokes of Paul's paintbrush. Habitat homes in Sussex County, New Orleans, and Mexico were built with the expertise and compassion that were hallmarks of Paul's personality.
Paul embodied Habitat's mission of "putting God's love into action, building homes, community, and hope." His camaraderie on Habitat build sites will be missed by all who worked with him.
Paul gave many hours of service on various build sites over the years. Including:
Concord Village,
Georgetown Point,
Ingram Village
Many other homes - County-wide
Repairs Program - County-wide
Jimmy Carter Work Project - Mexico,
Jimmy Carter Work Project - Gulf Coast
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends and the many volunteers with whom he served so faithfully. May he rest in peace.
