Higher Start Program Kicks Off at CHS

Months of preparation, meetings, assessment and paperwork has resulted in 73 freshman students enrolled in the new Higher Start program offered at Corsicana High School.

Higher Start, a program designed to provide the opportunity for entering 9th graders to graduate with their high school diploma and their Associate's degree, was introduced to incoming freshman students and parents last spring. Through a partnership with Navarro College, qualified students immediately begin dual credit classes and continue on a degree pathway through their four years
in high school.

"We have always had good enrollment and interest in the dual credit offerings and Advanced Placement courses at CHS," said Dr. Diane Frost, superintendent of CISD. "We (CISD) were ready to take this opportunity to the next level. Encouraging students to complete college cours es is not just an academic benefit to the student, the financial benefit is a huge incentive."

Meet the Tigers
It's fun to see our fans and players get fired up for the season!

Welcome Back!
We survived the first week of school!!!  Welcome back everyone!

Safety First

Mrs. Waldrip teaches the students at Navarro Elementary about the new secure entry vestibule. This "double-entry" system allows visitors to be funneled through the office before accessing the rest of the campus.  This safety feature was installed over the summer to ensure all guests come through the office.  This entry vestibule as well as the one installed at Bowie Elementary is part of the 2014 CISD Bond program.

As we enter the new school year, we ask that the community make sure to investigate any solicitors who say they are selling a product on behalf of the school district.

**NOTICE**
Adoption of the 2015 CISD Tax Rate.. .less than expected
At the last school board meeting the Board voted to adopt the resolution and set a Maintenance and Operations (M & O) tax rate of $1.04 per $100 valuation for the 2015-2016 school year and the resolution to set a Debt Service (I & S) tax rate at $0.3303 per $100 valuation for the 2015-2016 school year. The motion passed unanimously.

The current I & S rate is .2403. The voters approved a .14 cent increase; however, the Trustees approved an increase of .09 cents as the sale of the bonds allowed CISD a better rate than expected.  Thank you to the tax payers for the vote of confidence.
