Happy New Year! 2016 promises to bring continued evolution in product transparency, green building, and sustainability, with a new emphasis on resiliency, as can be seen in several of the articles below. The new year also brings new opportunities for education. In March The Masonry Society will offer our popular Faculty/Professor's Workshop at the University of California, San Diego. This is a great opportunity for instructors interested in teaching courses on masonry at the college/university level. Topics include everything from structural design to sustainable design. Check out the TMS website for more information.

The concept of detection limits in environmental measurements can vary in meaning dependent on technology, application or stakeholder community. Stakeholders in volatile organic compound (VOC) measurement will define detection in a very different way than those interested in asbestos or mold determinations. This conference aims to bring together diverse stakeholders on this issue. The conference will be held August 29-31, 2016, in Raleigh, NC. For more information contact conference chairman Mike Brisson, at mike.brisson@srs.gov , 803-952-440, or visit http://www.astm.org/D22ConferenceAug2016 .
