On December 3-5, 2015, state leadership teams from new and returning Collaboratives and community members from STEM organizations met in Seattle, Washington to learn how collaboration as an interactive process can build capacity, sustainability, and lead to more effective partnerships. Participants engaged in multiple sessions designed to assist in outreach and implementation. The NGCP currently hosts  32 Collaboratives, serving 40 states, that facilitate collaboration between 18,800 organizations serving 15.5 million girls and 6.9 million boys. -

Nation al Women's History Project Webinar
January 13, 2015; 11:00-12:00 PM Pacific/2:00-3:00 PM Eastern
Join us to learn more about the National Women's History Project (NWHP) and National Women's History Month 2016. The theme for 2016 is "Working to Form a More Perfect Union: Honoring Women in Public Service and Government".  The NWHP is planning programs and events for March 2016 as well as opportunities to participate in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote in 2020. PA STEM Girls Collaborative Project: SciGirls Training
Camp Hill, PA; December 11, 2015
Participants will learn the latest research for exciting and engaging girls (and boys), and underrepresented populations in STEM, experience hands-on activities, receive curriculum that puts a creative twist on teaching STEM, and learn to modify activities to engage kids in STEM using the SciGirls Seven Strategies.

Meet Andrea Kimberlin, Technical Data Analyst at General Electric (GE). She is a graduate of the Information Technology Leadership Program at GE and has a broad knowledge base specializing in security, networking, data analytics, social media, service management, and process expertise. Andrea says "As a young female with a degree in Computer Information Systems, I've been working as an IT Professional since graduation in a male-dominated field. 21st Century STEM: Integrate to Innovate Conference
Phoenix, AZ; January 21-23, 2016
Designed by teachers for teachers, this conference highlights the integration of STEM into engineering, computer science, biotechnology, sustainability, and other CTE-based programs. The conference begins with field trips followed by two days of workshops and keynote addresses for teachers to develop their content and pedagogical skills for teaching. National Summit for Educational Equity (NSEE)

The NSEE will bring together leaders in educational equity to build capacity, knowledge, and skills to transform education and improve student success. The Connectory Spotlight highlights programs and opportunities in The Connectory. The Connectory is a free, online collaboration tool for STEM program providers to find partners based on interests as well as a platform to showcase STEM opportunities to families. This month, in recognition of CSEdWeek, we highlight TechGirlz:

TechGirlz is dedicated to reducing, and ultimately eliminating, the gender gap in technology occupations, by holding workshops and an annual entrepreneurial summer camp providing middle school girls hands-on experience.TechGirlz has CSEdWeek events planned at schools, as well as the following public events:

techgirlz Art, Animation, and Games in Java: This three-hour hands-on introduction to computing will give guidance on programming art, animation, and games. The lesson will be a step-by-step guide starting at square-one. Middle school students will explore the programming language Java by creating programs that can be shared with and viewed by others.

Teaching Tech Together: CS Ed Week Event: Middle school girls will be given an opportunity to experience the excitement and fun of technology. Come hear Sarah Johnson, community outreach manager for TechGirlz, and Dr. Douglas Blank from Bryn Mawr College. Browse the projects from Baldwin's Computer Science and DREAM Lab@ program, and celebrate the legacy of Grace Hopper and the joys of Computer Science!

CODE2040 Technical Applicant Prep (TAP) Program
The TAP program prepares Black and Latino/a students to access and succeed at acquiring employment (intern or full-time) at top tech companies. TAP addresses barriers to success via workshops, retreats, online tools and meetups, as well as coaching and mentoring. Students may enroll online.

CodeGirl: A Documentary Film
Code Girl is a documentary film following the journey of a global mobile app competition for high school girls called Technovation. The film hopes to inspire girls everywhere to pursue careers in programming. Visit the Code Girl website to request a screening in your community.

Computational Fairy Tales
Computational Fairy Tales is a collection of stories to introduce computer science concepts. The goal of each story is to provide an overview and illustration of a single computer science concept before presenting full technical details. The stories cover a range of topics, including: data structures, algorithms, introductory programming, and practical programming tips.

CS Unplugged
CS Unplugged is a collection of free learning activities that teach computer science through engaging games and puzzles. The activities introduce students to computational thinking through concepts such as binary numbers, algorithms and data compression, separated from the distractions and technical details of having to use computers.

Making a Makerspace? Guidelines for Accessibility and Universal Design
AccessEngineering has released a new free publication: "Making a Makerspace? Guidelines for Accessibility and Universal Design" provided by DO-IT (Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking and Technology). In creating these innovative spaces the principles of universal design should be applied to ensure the spaces, tools, and community are accessible to as many individuals as possible.

M3 Challenge Logo Moody's Mega Math Challenge
Moody's Mega Math (M3) Challenge is an online applied mathematics competition for high school students designed to motivate youth to study and pursue careers in applied math, economics, and finance. The contest is sponsored by The Moody's Foundation and organized by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). Registration deadline: February 24, 2012.

NCWIT's EngageCSEduNCWIT Engage CSEdu
EngageCSEdu encourages the development of inclusive learning environments in introductory computer science courses by helping faculty browse, contribute, and review materials that engage all students. This dynamic collection offers thousands of projects, homework assignments, and other course materials searchable by CS knowledge area and programming language.

Hour of CodeHour of Code Around the World
The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer programming, designed to demystify code. Students of all ages choose from self-guided tutorials. Participants do not need prior computer programming experience. Tutorials are available in 40 languages and work on any modern browser, tablet, smartphone, or even with no computer at all. New tutorials feature Disney's Frozen, Scrat from Ice Age, Angry Birds, and Plants vs. Zombies. How-to guides, lesson plans, and an FAQ are available.
