China update: Looking ahead to the new year and looking back to the recent past - it is hard to know where to begin for this first newsletter of 2016!  Since our last newsletter was distributed in the Fall, we have had 5 more families complete their adoptions in China.  This month four families adopting through Gladney are travelling to China!  Much of the adoption dossier process and in-country travel process remains the same.  This is always reassuring - as other aspects of the process; matching and meeting are filled with newness, information and excitement.

The CCCWA communicates that it has matched children with families in the "standard" program with a dossier log-in-date through 1/09/2007.  The standard program is also commonly referred to as the "healthy infant" program.  Gladney completed one standard adoption last year in our China program for a long waiting family.  The China adoptions occurring at this time are almost all children with an identified medical need.  Occasionally there are older children available for adoption that do not have medical needs.  Gladney continues to explore new relationships with Social Welfare Institutes (SWI) in China as well as strengthen our current partnerships.  Our newest partner SWI is located near Shanghai and this year we have already matched 6 children with families through this newest relationship!  Gladney is now working with 10 orphanages in 5 provinces and we continue to foster positive relationships with the orphanage staff and local officials.  We really feel that Gladney's China program is vibrant and from day to day, month to month, so much happens.  Much of what happens is reflected through photos on our Superkids blog- but not all, so please never hesitate to ask one of our caseworkers what is on your mind.

Taiwan
Program Update:
We had a busy fall in the Taiwan program!  Three of our families welcomed home their children - an adorable 2 year old boy, a sweet 4 year old boy, and an energetic 5 year old girl. We are so happy for each of these families!

In September, Gladney's Superkids team made their first official visit to Taiwan! Gladney VP and Director of Asia Programs, Gongzhan Wu, led the team which included Superkids Pediatric PT, Keely O'Dell, Superkids Adoption Advocate and Photographer, Erin Martin, and Taiwan Program Caseworker, Mary Chapman. Although the team's plans were thrown off by a typhoon that hit and suspending work throughout Taipei for a day and half, important meetings with both of Gladney's partners - Cathwel Service and Chung Yi Social Welfare Foundation - were held. The team was also able to meet several waiting children during their visit to Cathwel and we are excited to have already matched one little boy to his forever family since returning!

There are many waiting children in the Taiwan program! Children range in age from toddlers to young teens, and there are also sibling groups. The waiting children have medical needs or difficult social histories. A great way to keep updated on waiting children from Taiwan is to join Gladney's Taiwan Advocacy Group on Facebook. Due to the strict requirements set by Taiwan regarding sharing information on waiting children, the group is private and information cannot be shared outside of the group on personal Facebook pages. If you would like to join the group, please be in touch with Mary Chapman at  [email protected] or send her a message on Facebook.

Advocacy for the waiting children is Taiwan is so important - especially as we are limited in the information we can share publicly about the children. We are hoping to find an adoptive parent with a child from Taiwan to help be a Taiwan Adoption Advocate. This volunteer would help with our larger outreach and advocacy efforts for waiting children from Taiwan and would work closely with our Superkids team. They may also have the opportunity to travel on an upcoming Superkids trip to Taiwan! If you are interesting in helping to advocate for these amazing kids, please contact Mary Chapman at  [email protected]  for more information!
