Rutgers Alumna Carli Lloyd Women's World Player of the Year

Rutgers alumna and U.S. women's national team star Carli Lloyd was named FIFA Women's World Player of the Year on Monday.  Lloyd's 13-minute hat trick in the World Cup final -- in a 5-2 rout of Japan -- made her the top contender. Lloyd got more than 35 percent of votes made by national team captains and coaches, plus invited journalists.  Lloyd is only the third American to win soccer's top honor.  Read more here.

MacArthur Genius Award Winner to Speak at Upcoming RU-C Lecture
Mary Bonauto, who successfully argued for marriage equality before the United States Supreme Court in the historic case of Obergefell v. Hodges, will serve as the speaker during the 27th Annual State Constitutional Law Lecture at Rutgers Law School on Tuesday, Feb. 2.  Her noon lecture at Rutgers Law School's Camden location is titled, "Equality and the Impossible: State Constitutions and Marriage."  Bonauto is a prominent gay rights advocate and, according to Rutgers Law Distinguished Professor Robert Williams, who also serves as associate director of the Center for State Constitutional Studies, her work on the landmark ruling has had an impact on current and future generations.  Read more here.
  
Homeland Security Fellowship Prepares Citizens for Emerging Threats

Occupying four corners of a room, teams of analysts convened to deliberate and ultimately resolve the simulated dilemma at hand.  
This simulation placed participants in the role of intelligence analysts in the months leading up to the Iraq War, and served as a sobering lesson for the 18 student "analysts" participating in the Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N) Homeland Security Fellowship.  Created three years ago, the fellowship has developed into a collaborative effort among the Graduate School at RU-N, the Rutgers University Institute for Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security (IEPHS), and the Rutgers School of Criminal Justice (RSCJ).  To read more, click here. 
 
RU Wrestling Climbs to Program Best #6 National Ranking
 
 Rutgers wrestling has reached its highest position in program history at No. 6 in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll, released Tuesday. The Scarlet Knights' previous high was No. 7 on Feb. 8, 2011, when the program was 20-1 in dual competition. More here.
