We hope you've been having a great summer! We have been very busy with many fun summer outings and activities for our families and children.  It's been an exciting few months with our volunteer reception, a trip to Mount Vernon, baseball games with Jayson Werth, and another great Shop with the Sheriff event! We couldn't do this without our community partners and volunteers like you! Read below to find out what we've been up to and what we're doing next.

"Day at the Park" with Jayson Werth
Shelter House went to its fifth Nationals game of the season just a few weeks ago! Our partner and supporter, Jayson Werth, met with us before game time to take pictures, sign autographs, and hang out with our families from our program. Everyone had such a great time.  We even had a wave from the field!

"Shop with the Sheriff"

The Fairfax County Sheriff's Office hosted their 9th annual "Shop with the Sheriff" event where 30 of our Shelter House kids were paired with their own personal "shopping" deputy. The day consists of lunch and a shopping spree to buy new school clothes at Target. Kids and adults alike had a wonderful excitement-filled day with lots of smiles and laughter! We even got a shout out on  WTOP! 


 

Our Volunteer Award Reception

What a wonderful evening honoring our dedicated volunteers and partners! We held our Volunteer Awards Reception at Maggiano's this past June where we celebrated our successes from the past year and recognized many for all their help and continued support. Thank you once again from all of us at Shelter House.

Thank you to Pluribus International 

Thank you to our partner and friends, Nathan and Valerie McCarry of  Pluribus International for hosting a "Shelter House Day" at Mt. Vernon.  Our families enjoyed a wonderful day at George Washington's house along with dinner and a private tour through the museum.  We can't thank you enough for your generosity.
 

 
Thank You to the Phi Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.!

Thank you so much to the ladies of AKA from the Phi Nu Omega Chapter for hosting a  back-to-school party at the Patrick Henry Family Shelter. The group played games, ate pizza, and then each of the 26 school-aged children at the shelter were gifted a backpack filled with schools supplies. The kids were thrilled and are now fully prepared for the oncoming school season! 

 
 
Congratulations, Joe Meyer! 

Shelter House has announced that Executive Director Joe Meyer has received the additional title of Chief Executive Officer.

The Shelter House Board of Directors approved the title addition in recognition both of the requirements and features of the top management position at Shelter House and Joe's individual performance.
