Golf Tournament - Saturday, October 3, 2015

This is a charity golf tournament that we host in the fall of each year. We also host a golf tournament happy hour the week before the event. This is our biggest event of the year. The Initial Golf Tournament Meeting is on August 5, 2015.

 

Holiday in February - Saturday, February 6, 2015

This is a charity event where we invite foster care children or underprivileged children (through one or two Broward County organizations geared to help these children) to the Museum of Science and Discovery. We do arts and crafts with the kids and take them on tours of the Museum. We also have someone dress up as Santa Claus and hand out a gift or two to each one of the kids. This Committee also coordinates the toy drive at the BCBA holiday party in December.

 

Membership Committee

This committee is geared towards any and all matters concerning membership. The committee should formulate membership initiatives especially focused on (1) law students (free membership); (2) first year attorneys (free membership); (3) government attorneys practicing 2-5 years ($25/year); and (4) Young Lawyers in general. The committee will also work with the Big Bar on initiatives involving members. Membership committee is responsible for bringing membership forms at all YLS events to sign up newcomers.

 

Social / Happy Hour Committee

This committee is responsible for planning all of our social events. Traditionally the events have consisted of happy hour events, however the committee should feel free to expand socials to other creative activities designed to promote community and networking (e.g Sweatworking Events). We often partner with other professional organizations for our Happy Hours. Happy hours sometimes have a charitable beneficiary.

 

Judicial Reception - May 19, 2016 (tentative date)

YLS hosts a cocktail party for all the members of the judiciary and the public. A tremendous amount of money needs to be raised for this event. This is our signature event which raises money for YLS.

 

Pro-Bono Committee

This committee is responsible for acting as a liaison between YLS, the BCBA, 17th Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committees, and Legal Aid. This person is responsible for board-wide pro bono initiatives such as the 12-month Legal Aid partnership in which we solicited voluntary bar associations to participate in last year.

 

Poker Tournament Committee

This is a charity poker tournament to which we would like to host in January. Chair and committee members would be responsible for selecting the charity, organizing the event (including catering and location/date), coordinating the poker service provider, and soliciting sponsors.
