Adult Coloring Session

Adult Coloring is all the rage and apparently very relaxing. Come and give it a try at the Library on
Saturday Nov. 7th at 11am . Bring your own coloring books and pencils or markers to show off what you do, or we will have some here to for you to use. Spend some quiet time peacefully coloring at the library with others and see if this new fad is for you.
 
 
Library Job Opening


The Library has a professional full-time position opening in December for a Children's Librarian. Download the city's application at http://www.dover.nh.gov/government/city-operations/executive/human-resources/employment/. The deadline is Nov. 9th.
 
Local Author Event   
 
Local author Nicholas Conley will be speaking on
Monday Nov. 16th at 7pm. His second book "Pale Highway" came out in October and is getting good reviews. Publisher's Weekly says "Steeped in suspense, Conley's novel delves into the darker recesses of the medical establishment " Nicholas will sign books afterwards and copies of the book will be for sale.
 

Library Book Group


The next Library Book Group meeting will take place on Monday November 16th at 6:30pm to discuss the book Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed. To see a list of future Book Group titles, visit our Pinterest board at https://www.pinterest.com/doverpl/book-group/ .  Limited copies of the book are available at the library.
 
 
Friends of the Library Cultural Series

The Friends of the Library will be presenting Austin Clark in
"The How  and Why of Civil War Reenacting" on Tuesday, November 17th at 7pm . Austin is a library assistant at the Whipple Free Library in New Boston, NH and a member of the 6 th NH Volunteer Infantry. The 6th NH Volunteer Infantry is a Civil War reenacting group based out of southern New Hampshire. In addition to traditional reenactments, they work extensively in support of educational programs and parades to help bring Civil War history, quite literally, "to life".
 
Game Night

Next Game Night is Wednesday, November 18th @ 6:00pm in the Lecture Hall.


Monthly Game Night continues in November on the 3rd Wednesday of the month November 18th at 6pm . Board game fun for all ages! Snacks will be provided too. The Library will also be participating in International Games Day on Saturday Nov. 21st from 11am-1:30pm. Plan on staying and watching Jurassic World afterwards at 2pm that day!
 
Essential Oil Program

Bring your noses for a "scentful" evening with Patti Frohloff as she teaches you about the history and uses of essential oils on Monday Nov. 23rd at 6:30pm. Oils have been used medically, in beauty treatments and in food preparation. There will be food and drink samples featuring essential oils to try.
 
Trip of a Lifetime

In September of 2013 Ann Schultz and John Damon left New Hampshire for a year out west on a motor home adventure. They took with them a bright yellow VW convertible bug named "Cupcake".   On Monday Nov. 30 at 7:00 PM they will be sharing this adventure with you at the Dover Public Library through pictures and stories.  Some of the highlights of the trip were Bryce, Zion and Yosemite National parks, Crater Lake and Lake Tahoe.  
 
Movies at the Library
Saturday Matinees

Saturday movies take a couple of weeks off in November due to the book sale which is held in the Lecture Hall. The Saturday movies will return on Saturday Nov. 14th
.  Movies are shown in the Lecture Hall at 2pm.

Second Wednesday Movie Series

The Second Wednesday Movie Series will be taking the month off because library will be closed for Veteran's Day. The movie series will return in December.
Monthly Information Board

Have you seen our new information board in the lower level hallway? A section of the board will highlight a different digital resource provided by the library each month. This month we're showing folks how learn a new language or refresh language skills using Mango. You can choose from 71 languages including Yiddish, Cherokee, American Sign Language as well as French, Spanish, and even Pirate! Stop by and pickup a handout on your way past the bulletin board.
Local Artist Exhibit in November
 
Christopher Lima is our artist of the month for November. Chris lives in Dover and is a retired school art teacher. His oil paintings are inspired by a love of the sea, woods, and all things New England. Chris will be hosting a public reception on Saturday November 14th from 1-3pm if you'd like to meet the artist.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten


A new early literacy initiative will be starting this month in the Children's Room. Parents and Grandparents stop in the Children's Room to sign up children aged birth to 5.
 

Friends of the Library Booksale


Now is the time to stock up on books for winter with our HUGE annual book sale. The sale starts for the general public on Saturday Oct. 31st during regular library hours. We have thousands of books and other items for sale. Come early for the best selection. The Book sale ends on Nov. 15th.

Weekly New Arrivals in the Browse Room 
The Browse Room has shifted yet again! Keep an eye out in our new books room (or Browse Room as the staff call it) for books recently added to the collection. The shelf, located next to the new mysteries, will be switched out weekly to highlight all the exciting new titles you can borrow from the library!
