Show Your Heart Some Love
February is American Heart Month

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Every year, 1 in 4 deaths are caused by heart disease. But, there's good news. Heart disease can often be prevented through healthy choices and proper preventative care or disease management.

Love your heart! Here are some helpful tips.

1. Limit your salt intake. Too much sodium increases your risk for high blood pressure which is a major contributor for heart disease and stroke.

2. Get up and get moving. Regular exercise is not only great for your heart but it can reduce stress and increase your energy levels.

3. Kick butt - cigarette butt! According to the Centers for Disease Control more deaths are caused each year by tobacco use than by HIV, illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders combined.

4. Know your blood pressure. High blood pressure can be a first sign of heart disease or other heart related issues. Keeping your blood pressure controlled also reduces your risk for heart disease and stroke.
