Board of Education Sets 2016 Meetings
The Milford Board of Education met for the first time in the New Year on Thursday, January 7, for the annual budget hearing and organizational meeting. At the meeting, the Board set their regular meetings for 2016, which will continue on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. To be more accessible to the school community, the Board rotates its meeting location each month between the six elementary schools, Milford Junior High, and Milford High School. All meeting dates, times, and locations are posted on the district website.

Mrs. Debbie Marques and Mr. George Lucas, newly elected in November, were sworn in and officially began their new four-year terms. In addition, Mr. Gary Knepp was elected President and Mr. George Lucas, the Vice President, for 2016.

A special Board meeting followed the organizational meeting. At this meeting, the Board gave the authority to the district administration to apply for the final phase of the Master Plan with the  Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, which involves construction and renovation of the junior high and high school. The Board then went into Executive session to discuss the sale of property and safety measures. No action was taken.
In Memory of Red...
Milford remembers "Red" Dedman who passed away on December 26. Red was a Milford High School custodian for 21 years and loved the Eagles. Our sincere condolences go out to the Dedman family.
To honor this devoted Eagles fan, the boys and girls basketball teams hosted two "red outs" at home basketball games on January 5 and 6. We even saved him his favorite seat.
Kindergarten Registration Undwerway
Registration for part-time and full-time kindergarten in Milford Schools began on January 4, 2016.  To be eligible for Kindergarten, your child has to be 5 years old by September 30, 2016.

Milford is beginning kindergarten registration early this year to facilitate the planning of our kindergarten classes for the 2016-17 school year which, for the second year, will include a full-time kindergarten tuition option at each elementary.

Interested parents should call Mr. Jay Batterson, Central Registration, at (513) 576-4178 in advance for an appointment to register. To insure your child has a place in the full-day program at your local elementary, it is important to call soon to schedule an appointment. A lottery will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016, at 4 p.m. to determine who is admitted into the all-day program.  After February 12, full-day kindergarten registration will continue until all classes at all of our elementary schools are full.  The district still offers half-day kindergarten, funded by the state of Ohio, at all of our elementary schools.

Kindergarten registration packets are available at all of our elementary schools and online under Central Registration at www.milfordschools.org.
Pattison Video in the Running for $10,000 Prize Money Pattison fifth  graders in Mrs. Breuer's class have been named a top 10 finalist in the United States in Scotties annual Trees Rock ® video contest. Pattison is now eligible to win a $10,000 in prize money.

Missy Breuer, a math and science teacher at Pattison, involved 60 students in creating a list of their top reasons why trees are important. They jumped in leaves, read books in the shade, and sang a rap song about trees. Click here to watch the video.

The next phase of the contest will run from January 11 through February 7, when all videos will be voted on by the public to determine the grand prize winner. The school with the most eligible votes will receive $10,000 to use towards a sustainable project, such as tree plantings, outdoor classrooms, and gardens.

"In my science classes I stress the importance of being good stewards of our earth and its resources. We have a school wide recycling program; walking field trips to the nature preserve behind our school; visits to the Cincinnati Nature Center; and have begun work on adding native plants on the school grounds to help Monarch butterflies with the habitat they need as part of their life cycle," said Breuer.

Pattison needs community support to win this prize money!
