Medicaid Managed Care
As many of you may know, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) issued a decision to delay the implementation of the transition from Iowa's current Medicaid fee for service to Medicaid managed care to March 1, 2016. The official
letter to Medicaid Director Mikki Stier outlines the next steps required to document Iowa has met the readiness criteria. For families of children and youth and consumers required to enroll in managed care, this decision will mean:
- If you are eligible for Medicaid, you can continue to see your doctor and Iowa will continue to pay for your services;
- March 1st is the date Iowa Health Link will begin. So families and consumers Medicaid eligible will have until February 17th to decide if they want to change from the MCO assigned to them.
- This link is a chart comparing the value added services of the four companies. Value added services are important because all the MCOs are required to provide basic health care coverage. Value add services describe the additional coverage (benefits) each MCO will provide. Check the link often in the next weeks because it will be changing as providers sign MCO contracts.

Olmstead Consumer Taskforce Accepting Applications
The Taskforce works to promote implementation of the U.S. Supreme Court's 1999
Olmstead decision in public policies and programs at the state and local level, and to raise awareness of what this means for Iowans with disabilities and mental illness. The Taskforce seeks diverse membership from around the state, including adults with disabilities, family members of people with disabilities, and others who are strong advocates for the full inclusion of individuals with disabilities into all aspects of community life.
Applications will be accepted until Monday, February 1st at 5 p.m.

Parenting Classes in Des Moines
Polk County C.A.N. Prevent
Parenting the Love and Logic Way is a six-week parenting class that will begin on January 14th. Classes will be every Thursday through February 18th from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Work Innovations and Opportunities Act
News from Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services
You may have heard about a new legislation called Work Innovations and Opportunities Act (WIOA). It is a piece of federal legislation that puts standards in place to support and increase integrated employment (work experiences in the community) opportunities for people with disabilities. It also outlines pre-employment and transition planning services for youth with disabilities. In Iowa several state agencies including Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation (IVRS) and Department of Education are working together to create a plan for how this legislation will impact Iowa systems and services. The specific rules are not yet approved but Voc Rehab and Department of Education have created a training that summarizes the legislation, services and proposed changes.
