ALUMNI 3 on 3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Congratulations to Brian Ferber '10, Steve Ferber '04, Aaron Kowaleski '04 and Kyle Kelley '04 on their hard fought victory in the Alumni 3 on 3 Tournament that took place in "the Den" over Christmas break. Graduates from the class of '96 through '15 came back to the hardwood to test their skill against each other. A total of 7 teams participated in the tournament.

SMCC HALL OF FAME WEEKEND
SMCC Hall of Fame Weekend kicks off on Saturday evening, January 16 at the boys varsity basketball game vs. Lakota. The Hall of Fame Class of 2015 will be introduced at halftime of the varsity game. The class includes Spencer Dye '04, Jim Guendelsberger '47, Gary Kelley, Ed Opfer '77, Allen Schaffer '88, Rev. Joseph Widman and the 1966 undefeated football team.
 
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place on Sunday, January 17 at the Sandusky Yacht Club at 2:00pm. Tickets are $30 each and can be obtained by contacting Dave Mehling at 419.625.4768 or Gary Erney at 419.626.5389.

PANTHER FAMILY BUSINESS
The Advancement and Development Department is compiling a list of Panther family and alumni owned businesses to create a Panther Pride Business Directory. The directory will be available online through the school website and SMCC/SCCS Panther Facebook page. The goal is to help support and promote Panther family owned businesses. All current families and alumni are eligible to be listed in the directory. Participating businesses will be given a Panther Pride Business emblem to display at their location. Please submit business name, brief description and contact information to Cindy McClung, Communication and Events Coordinator by email.

CLASS NOTES
Horst Maczuga '66 has been retired from the New Zealand Police College since 2007. He continues to do consulting work on interpersonal conflict and dealing with conflict.
 
Dan May '77 has a new hit song out titled "Chaussee Liaison" that talks about life on the Cedar Point Chaussee and long summer days in Sandusky. Check out the video by clicking here.
 
Ty Roth '80 was recently featured as a guest columnist on the Cleveland.com website. Ty's piece about parents and athletes dealing with concussions comes from his experience as a football coach for many years, including time with the Panthers and Port Clinton. He is author of the novels "So Shelly" (Random House) and "Goodness Falls," the latter of which tells the story of a high school football player whose world implodes as a result of Repetitive Head Injury Syndrome.
 
 
Jon Smith '05 has taken up running in a big way since his graduation from SMCC. He recently completed his first ultramarathon, an epic 50k (31 miles) journey through the trails of Deception Pass in Northern Washington State. Jon has run several marathons, including trail marathons which are run through woods and parks for an extra challenge.
 
He was a contributing writer commenting on his experience at the Deception Pass race for the Silverdale Riot running club website. You can read his story on the Riot website by clicking here.
 
Maddie Engeler '12 is a standout volleyball player for Brandeis University and will be graduating with a double major in biology and health in the spring. Brandeis Now, the university newsletter, recently did a story on Maddie's work researching concussions.
 
 
Ashley Szatala '11 recently met author Barbara Ehrenreich. Mrs. Ehrenreich is the author of "Nickeled and Dimed, Not Getting by in America," which Ashley had to read for Mrs. Goff's Social Studies class while at SMCC. While attending the University of Missouri, she was required to read it three more times. Ashley is currently completing her Master's Degree in Journalism at Missouri.
