Talking Starts with Reading!

Reading to children at an early age is crucial to the development of their language skills.  Take time to make the most of reading time with your child.

Read to your young children early and frequently . It is never too  early  to start reading to children and that is why the Imagination Library begins at birth

Reading with babies and young children helps in many ways, including how many words they know, how they talk and how they learn to read. Research finds that reading to your child often helps to ensure that they will be successful in school and in life. Parents should try to read to their children  every day .

FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card
United Way of Erie County is pleased to offer the FamilyWize Prescription Drug Discount card! The cards are  free and re-usable ; there is no need to personally register your card and no one tracks your purchases.
The card can be used by the whole family and is for people with no insurance or for medicine not covered by insurance, Medicare or other benefit plans. The FamilyWize Prescription Discount card could lower the cost of medicine by an average of 35%. United Way of Erie County is providing these cards  free-of-charge to everyone in our community . There are no age restrictions, no income restrictions, no limit on how many times you can use it and no waiting to get a card.

Best of all, everyone can check the price of their prescription drugs online to see if FamilyWize provides a better price.  It's an easy, 4-step process.  First, log into  www.familywize.org.  Second, click the "Drug Price Lookup" button in the upper left corner of the FamilyWize homepage.  Third, enter the name of the drug (be sure to spell it correctly) and your zip code. Fourth, click "Find Drug Prices" and prices for this drug from all pharmacies in your area will be posted.

Recently, a United Way staff person checked prices on the FamilyWize Drug Price Lookup feature.  He was paying $66/month for a specific drug but found that the same drug was available at another location for $17/month.  That's a monthly savings of $49 and a yearly savings of $588!

It pays to compare prices -- and it's easy to do from home or your smartphone using the FamilyWize Drug Price Lookup feature.  FamilyWize cards are available from most social service agencies in Erie County or by printing a copy from United Way's website at  unitedwayerie.org/familywize.

READING TIP OF THE MONTH

Have your child join in: by reciting a repetitive phrase, or counting if the story involves numbers, or making a motion or sound that is part of the story. Even consider making up silly rhymes and dances about the story. Children learn best when they are active!
