CISPRI, Seward SeaLife Center, Seldovia Oil Spill Response Team join forces to protect wildlife in event of spill
Cook Inlet Spill Prevention and Response Inc. (CISPRI) Managing Director Todd Paxton and Chip Arnold, Dr. Carrie Goertz and Brett Long with the Alaska SeaLife Center updated the CIRCAC Board of Directors at their September meeting regarding their collaboration, along with the Seldovia Oil Spill Response Team, to provide oil spill response for oiled sea otters and wildlife training in Seldovia in the event of an oil spill. The SeaLife Center is working on training sessions, including HAZWOPER (hazardous waste operations and emergency response standards), an oiled wildlife workshop, response team drills and oiled wildlife response training. Keeping volunteers current in training is the challenging part of a volunteer force during times of fewer oil spills. Volunteer/SOS (Seldovia Oil Spill) training is to begin in early spring 2016. CIRCAC has offered its support, including providing relevant training opportunities. More information will be forthcoming as training sessions are scheduled.
