"The Parental Alienation Dynamic"
I have recently discovered the work of Craig Childress, Psy.D., a clinical psychologist based in Pasadena, CA who in his practice addresses parent-child conflict, family problems, and romantic relationship conflict. In a compelling
presentation, he describes his view of what he calls the "parental alienation dynamic." In this family process, one parent is idealized by the child and the other is alienated and devalued. Dr. Childress poignantly explains how narcissistic issues in the family system fuel this dynamic and may be approached in treatment.
