New Website Focuses on How Gardant is Leading the Way
Gardant has launched a new website that focuses on how we are leading the way with a fresh perspective, seeing the business of senior living in a whole new light, and looking at today in a new way to shape tomorrow. You can check out our new website at http:// www.gardant.com

Gardant Staff Shares Insights at Marketing and Sales Summit
Julie Simpkins and Rick Banas of Gardant served as panel members for breakout sessions at the SMASH 2015 Senior Care Marketing and Sales Summit held at the Hilton Chicago Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale, Illinois.

Julie, who is Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, served on a panel that addressed Changing the Sales Culture from Lead Generation to Lead Nurturing: Driving Bottom Line Success from the Top Down. Rick, who is Vice President of Development and Positioning, was a panelist for a session on "Tours that Blow the Doors Off."

Hearing Aids May Slow Cognitive Decline
A French study strongly suggests that using hearing aids may slow declines in cognitive abilities among hard-of-hearing older adults, says a report posted on the Reuters website.

Special Thanks to Gov. Rauner
On behalf of all of the residents who live in the Supportive Living communities that Gardant manages, we thank Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner for his decision earlier this month to rescind the plan to increase the Determination of Need score to qualify for residency in a Supportive Living community.

Construction of New Communities Moving Forward
Construction of Lacey Creek Supportive Living is well underway, with opening scheduled for the Summer of 2016. The affordable assisted living community is being constructed on property on the west side of Lacey Rd., north of Ogden Rd., between Main Street and Belmont/Finley Rd. in Downers Grove, Illinois. Gardant will manage the community, which will serve adults 65 and older of virtually all incomes who need some help to maintain their independence.

Construction of GateWay at River City also is well underway, with opening scheduled for the Fall of 2016. The affordable assisted living community will be located in Peoria, Illinois, and serve adults 22 to 64 with physical disabilities.

Individuals interested in having their name and contact information added to the Interest List for either community can call Gardant toll-free at 1-877-882-1495.

Midlife Fitness and Health Care Costs for Seniors
A report from the Vanderbilt University Medical Center posted on the Newswise website on Nov. 9 indicates a strong correlation between having high levels of fitness in midlife to significantly lower health costs after the age of 65.

Older Adults in Rural Areas Face Special Health Challenges
Because health care services are more difficult to access, adults 85 and older living in rural areas have significantly higher levels of chronic  disease, take more medications and die earlier than older adults living in urban areas. So says a story posted last week on the Medical News Today website about a research study done by Oregon State University and the Oregon Health & Science University.

Strong Legs, Strong Minds
A British study ties leg strength to brain strength, says a report posted on the U.S. News and World Report website. The story indicates that simply walking can lead to a having a healthier brain as you age.

Medicare Open Enrollment
Gardant reminds you that the 2015 Medicare Open Enrollment is fast approaching. The Open Enrollment period occurs once a year and is the only period of time when all people on Medicare can change their Medicare health plan and prescription drug coverage.

As Medicare health and drug plans can make changes to things such as costs, coverage and providers and pharmacies that are in the plan's network for the new year, you should pay attention to the notices you receive in the mail.

To make sure the plans you have for 2016 best meets your needs, you can obtain more information and compare your current plans to other Medicare plan options that are available by going to www.Medicare.gov. If you decide to keep the plans you currently have, you do not need to do anything.

Alzheimer's Awareness
November is National Alzheimer's Month. More than 25 million Baby Boomers are expected to develop Alzheimer's disease by 2040, according to the Alzheimer's Association. It is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Visit the Alzheimer's Association's website at http://www.alz.org/ for further information. A 24/7 Helpline is available at 800-272-3900.

Diabetes Month
November also is American Diabetes Month. The theme this year is "Eat Well, America."

Featured Review
The daughter of a resident of Heritage Woods of Batavia recently wrote us to say ...
Our Mom has been at Heritage for just over a year now and although I wanted to yell from the rooftops from day one how blessed we are to have chosen it, maybe it's better that after a full year, it continues to offer the incredible experience for all of us as a family, so it means more to have waited. Every single person from the first day was warm, helpful, sincere, kind, and I truly love them. The food is as fantastic as the people who prepare and serve it. Every day our phone call includes what she had and how much she enjoyed it. She doesn't miss my cooking at all;) but that's ok - on Sundays I still have her over to remember it. When we visit, I am excited to see the staff who have become like dear, dear friends. It's very clear, it's not just a job for them, it's a true desire to enrich lives for their residents and their loved ones. The activities, bus trips, exercise, movies - fantastic for her - she even knitted me a scarf she made at class and was so proud. To have a clear head every day knowing she is active, safe and happy means more than any words can express.
