Summer is finally here, the sun is shining and the days are longer!  Are you  well prepared for the summer? Do your smoke alarms have a tendency to go off from a single piece of burnt toast, or maybe when you cook the bacon in the morning? Now we all know some of you may purposely set them off to wake the house, however if you haven't heard it recently, maybe its time to test them...........

Fire Safety

Unfortunately there have been several home fires and smoke related issues here on the South Shore in the past several months that have hit close to home. Most if not all fires and fire related injuries can be prevented with some simple safety tips along with the correct alert systems installed in your home. We would like to help with information that can better educate you on the available fire protection & Carbon Monoxide Detection Systems.

Why should I have a working smoke alarm?

What types of smoke alarms are available?

What powers a smoke alarm?

Are smoke alarms expensive?

Where do I install smoke alarms in my home?

How do I take care of my smoke alarm?

What do I do if my smoke alarm alerts while I'm cooking?

Did you know that some of the most common household appliances such as water heaters, clothes dryers, kitchen ranges, ovens, cooktops & wood burning stoves have the ability to create carbon monoxide. Anything that uses natural gas, gasoline, propane or fuel oil has the ability to be a hazard, if not properly vented or installed appropriately.

If these questions have ever crossed your mind, it may be time to take a look at what systems are installed in your home. If you know that your system is adequate, ask yourself when was the last time that you tested or replaced them?

Manufacturers suggestion is that each smoke detector in your home be tested monthly, and replaced every 8-10 years!

Matthews Electric takes pride in keeping your family safe. Once you have looked at your current fire protection system installed, call us so that we can provide you the services needed to keep your family safe!
