Clouds - Apple, Rackspace, Switch and Tesla
The Tesla Gigafactory will have a data center. Apple is already operating one just across the freeway from the Tesla site at Reno Technology Park, which also will be the site of a new Rackspace data center. Switch is going big. Very big.

Inside iCloud: Apple Inc has quietly doubled its Reno, Nevada data center site. Apple now has two massive buildings on the site, providing twice the capacity of its initial large structure. However, with 345 acres of land reserved by Apple, there's plenty more room to grow.
Looks like Apple's Reno-area data center is getting a new neighbor. Rackspace US, Inc., applied for for a $422 million, 150,000-square-foot data center it plans to build at Reno Technology Park.
San Antonio-based Rackspace is a leading cloud service provider that serves more than 300,000 clients in over 120 countries worldwide. The company provides a range of offerings to clients that include public, private, dedicated and hybrid cloud computing services.
Switch is going big. Very big. The Switch Northern Nevada data center will be the World's Largest and cost $3 billion when fully built out. Once completed, the Switch Campus will house seven buildings totaling 6.49 million square feet.
The Switch building is so large that it will have a 300 megavolt ampere (MVA) substation and an energy capacity of 150 megawatts. To put that in context, 100 megawatts can power anywhere from 40,000 to 80,000 homes. The SuperNAP Tahoe Reno 1 building, which will start operations in 2016, also will require 82,000 tons of cooling. Its anchor tenant will be a name that's well known in the e-commerce industry - EBay will be taking the entire back end of the building.
At Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, if a building's under 1 million square feet, it's kind of cute.
