While driving to an evening service for a speaking engagement, James and I watched the large rain drops hit our windshield. The eight lane freeway in San Antonio, Texas, was unusually dark. Since there was no lightening, I felt calm and confident driving in inclement weather. As I approached my exit, I needed to move over one lane to the right. Looking in my right rear view mirror, all was clear for me to change lanes. Suddenly, a bright streak of lightening lit up the sky. In the illumination I glanced again to my right and saw a vehicle within a few feet of my car! Had I changed lanes, we would have been in a terrible crash. But God shined his great big flashlight on the dark, wet road that night to help his daughter see danger. That single flash was the only lightening we saw for the duration of the trip. As always, God was right on time with his "wonderful deed"!
How many times have we been spared and protected from harm by God's divine intervention whether or not we are cognizant of it? In Psalm 121:8 the psalmist declares, "The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore." As you travel this busiest of all holiday seasons, take comfort in knowing your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will never sleep nor slumber. His eyes are always on you. He has his tools handy in the heavens should you need help!
