H-Club Food Drive
|
During the week of November 9th, H-Club hosted its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. At the beginning of 4th period, H-Club students collected non-perishable food items, along with monetary donations, that helped support the Hartford Food Pantry. Hartford Union High School helped raise approximately $1700 (in which will be spent on items for the Hartford Food Pantry) and donated nearly 1,100 non-perishable food items throughout the week. The generosity showed by students and staff was remarkable. The classes which donated the most were:
1. Ms. Kieckhaefer
2. Mrs. Algiers
3. Mr. Kelly
On behalf of H-Club, thank you to everyone that donated and helped make the event a success. ~Mr. Vanden Acker, H-Club Advisor

Veterinary Medicine
|
This past week, the Veterinary Medicine class has been diving in (gloves first!) to their fetal pig dissection. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the structures and systems that work together to sustain life, they've been examining organs and tissues and putting their medical knowledge to practice. Prior to dissecting, students completed anatomical overlays of each major system for an animal that fit with their area of interest.

College Applications
Seniors applying to college should be submitting their applications by now if they have not done so already. Application due dates vary from school to school, but in general colleges prefer to receive applications by early December.
|
Financial Aid Night
Financial Aid is provided for by the federal government, the State of Wisconsin, outside scholarship sources, and the college/universities themselves. Most aid is based on financial need and is designed to help meet the difference between the cost of college and the student and family's ability to pay for the education.
HUHS will be hosting a presentation for college-bound students and their parents to learn about grants, loans, student employment, and scholarships on
Wednesday, December 16, at 6:30pm. A speaker from Great Lakes Higher Education will be here to discuss the process of how families finance college costs through all the available options. Senior students and parents should plan to attend!

Do they display qualities of leadership, good moral character, cooperativeness, dependability, and participate in co-curricular activities? There's campaigning, pep rallies, State Fair, talent shows, recreational programs, music, discussion sessions, sports, etc. It's a sponsored event, so there's no cost to the participants. More information will be available in the months to come.
Requirements: Student must be in the top half of his or her class; be a US Citizen; and able to participate in the entire week of activities.

Educational Spotlight - Archaeology & Anthropology at UW-La Crosse
Students who have an interest in archaeology, anthropology, history, forensic science, and/or geology may wish to consider attending UW-La Crosse. The UWL Archaeology & Anthropology Department houses the top comprehensive undergraduate program in archaeology in the nation, and the only one in the Midwest. Two key components of archaeology at UW-L distinguish the college from other archaeology programs. First, students are provided with practical research experience unmatched by other programs of its kind. In addition to a close relationship with the Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center, UW-L has an established archaeological and ethnographic field school in the South American Andes and Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as opportunities in Egypt. The second component of the program is the close student-instructor interaction, providing students with direct access to experienced experts in archaeological science. For more information, visit
www.uwlax/archaeology.
