The Dating and Relationship Group:  Sexual Withholding
The erosion of sexual fulfillment in romantic relationships has been widely documented by researchers, yet the factors responsible for this emerging trend are poorly understood.  One pathway to sexual disgruntlement that has drawn considerable attention is sexual withholding.  Generally viewed as a passive-aggressive attempt to manage conflict in relationships, recent evidence suggests that self-denial may also motivate a person to withdraw sexually from his or partner.  In the next meeting of the Dating and Relationship Group on Saturday, September 19, 2015 (12:00 to 1:15 PM), we will discuss the dynamics of sexual withholding in romantic relationships and the nature of the complex intersection of self-experience and interpersonal processes.  To register to attend this group on Saturday, September 19, 2015, please see the directions below.

The Men's Group:
"6
Truths That Will Make You a Better Person"
In the next meeting of the Men's Group on Saturday, September 19, 2015 (10:45 AM to 12:00 PM noon), we will discuss "6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You a Better Person", a blog article written by David Wong that originally appeared in 2012 on the social commentator website "Cracked.com."  The subversive article has been viewed by over 20 million people, but was originally brought to my attention by a member of the Men's Group.  Wong contends that one's value and corresponding degree of achievement/contentment is primarily determined by the extent to which one benefits or meets the needs of others.  In the truths Wong espouses, he explicitly critiques what for many of us may be considered traditional moral values or personal ethics, i.e., trying to be the best person we can be/doing unto others as we would have them do unto us.  Wong also seems to be a proponent of the "nice guys finish last" sentiment; his truths are shrouded in a not-so-subtle urging of men to be less sentimental and more realistic in all aspects of their lives, including their dealings with women.  My goal in facilitating a discussion of "6 Truths" is to provide a forum for men to discuss Wong's contentions and what meaning can be made of their radical implications.  To register to attend this group on Saturday, September 19, 2015, please see the directions below.
