Building a snowman is a fun sequencing activity filled with lots of great vocabulary and concepts for your preschooler and the whole family.  Start by telling your child the steps ahead of time and then again while building it.  Collect the items you will need and then show them to your child.

 Concepts
first, then, next
small, medium, big, little
cold, soft, hard, on, in
Actions
build, roll, dress, pick up, push
Nouns
snow, snowball, snowman, hat, scarf, branch, stick, eyes, nose, mouth, body, and items used to make the face (carrots, etc.)

Take pictures of the activity and retell later on with your children, using the vocabulary above.

HAVE FUN!!!!

FUNDRAISING
We are excited to announce that the Richard J. O'Brien Foundation will be presenting us with a check in the amount of $25,000 later on this month.   The Richard J. O'Brien Foundation honors the memory of Rich O'Brien, who passed away in September 2010. Throughout his life, Rich was actively involved in helping NIS and other non-profit organizations that help children across Long Island, so his family and friends pulled together to form a foundation to continue his generous work in his memory. NIS has been a proud recipient of the funds raised at the Richard J. O'Brien Golf Outings for the past few years, and we are excited to announce that we have once again been chosen as a recipient of a portion of the funds raised at the 2015 Outing. We are so grateful for their continued support of our school and look forward to implementing a new and exciting program for NIS students with this funding.  Stay tuned for details!!

We've also been awarded with a $3,500 grant from The Laura B. Vogler Foundation to continue offering our Fun for All Sports Program to NIS students.  The program has been such a resounding success, so we are elated to be able to continue to offer it next year.

NIS parent, Brendan Primus, put together an agreement with his company, Matthijssen Business Systems LLC, that for every deal he closes, they will donate $100 to NIS. We are excited to report that Mr. Primus has given us two $100 checks for the two deals he closed! How can your company get involved? Check with them! Many have matching gift programs whereby they will match dollar for dollar what you donate to NIS. We have several sponsorship opportunities whereby your company can receive publicity for their donations.  We are also always seeking new ways to form partnerships with corporations, so please speak to your employer.  Remember - NIS is a nonprofit - we rely on donations to enhance all of the programs and services we provide to students and their families. Every dollar counts -- and all contributions are tax-deductible.  You don't have to come to Parent Council meetings to be invloved (although you are always welcome!)

Please mark your calendars with all of the exciting events we have planned in the coming months.  We hope to see you at the Book Fair on 2/5, at IGHL for the Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner on 3/11, at McGuire's Comedy Club  on 4/7, and our Golf Outing on 7/11.  We are always in need of sponsors and items to be raffled off at our events. We appreciate your involvement thus far. Keep your eye out for the 50/50 in the lobby.  Contact Susan Cali, Director of Development, at 631-924-5583, ext. 128 or [email protected] for more information on fundraising, public relations, program development or ways to become more involved at NIS!
