A Patient Advocate Speaks Out:
Three-Part Series Chronicles Hope in Midst of Tragedy
If two jumbo jets fell from the sky every day, would you fly? That's the question Betty Tonsing sets out to address in her book
Stand in the Way: Patient Advocates Speak Out.

Betty Tonsing and
her husband, George
Every year hundreds of thousands of people die as the result of "infections contracted while in the hospital . . . and from unintentional medical harm," Betty says in her book. "That is the equivalent of about two jumbo jets crashing every day."

Her husband was one of those people.

Betty is a member of an atom Alliance care coordination community in Indiana. She graciously shared her story with us, which we featured in this three-part series, to illustrate the action she took and the hope she still has in the midst of her personal tragedy.
