Developing and managing the future of apartment living
April 2015
Dear FJG Family,

Time has definitely flown by! It's been a little over two years since we began the journey of The Franklin Johnston Group. I am so proud of what we have all accomplished and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for us.

Last month I conducted a contest that asked for examples of our associates living our company's core values. The winner of the Core Value Contest is Hannah Heitz! The nomination showed her dedication to the core value, "Commitment." She is known for going above and beyond the expectations of her assistant management roll at Preston Trails. She surprises her team with her willingness to take on never-ending tasks to help get the job done. "Work like no-one is watching". Hannah is a natural born leader, and her determination attitude inspires her team to view her as a true role model.

Sincerely,

Taylor Franklin
Growing to Success
On April 16th, the corporate office came together for a dedication ceremony to honor the main conference room and the brand new training room.

Taylor Franklin was pleased to announce The Johnston Conference Room in honor of his partner and TFJG Chief Development Officer, Tom Johnston. Tom's expertise and creative personality have created homes for tens of thousand of people along the East Coast. The decisions that are made in this conference room help develop communities that we are all proud to manage and our residents call home.
In addition, Taylor was excited to announce the new training room named after his father and partner, Wendell Franklin. The WCF Training Room is dedicated to Wendell because he has been through all aspects of the multifamily business from being a Regional in 1973, to developing and owning along with his partners over 6000 apartment homes throughout the Mid-Atlantic. His experiences through the years have developed the business skills of many other industry leaders throughout the community. The property management style of training that Wendell has taught over the last 40 years will continue in this room for decades to come.
TFJG Corporate Office has officially completed the 3rd expansion with seven new beautiful ocean view offices and a new meeting room overlooking King Neptune. The office is surrounded by beautiful photos of sailboats, sunsets, lighthouses and historical places of Virginia.
United Way Kick Off Campaign
The Franklin Johnston Group will launch their inaugural United Way Campaign at the corporate office on Monday, May 4, 2015. As the company continues to grow, TFJG plans to be increasingly active about giving back and continuing to invest in the community. During the month-long campaign, TFJG will encourage all team members to contribute to the United Way via an automatic payroll deduction or one-time contribution. Christen Faatz, Director of Corporate Strategy, said, "The great thing about giving to the United Way is that you can designate your contributions to go to organizations of all kinds, including interests that employees have reported being the most important to them - education, military/veterans, kids and animals. No amount is too small to make a difference". Last year, more than 40,000 South Hampton Roads donors came together to raise $17.7 million. TFJG is beyond excited to join so many other to make an impact. Please check out this video to learn more about giving to the United Way.
*Stay tuned - a second campaign will launch in August for south Hampton Roads and Peninsula properties.*
Community Service: First Landing State Park
TFJG Community Managers from Hampton Roads and the Peninsula teamed up to clean First Landing State Park at the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach. First Landing State Park is located just up the street from our corporate office, and is a destination for campers, hikers, bikers, and boaters from not only our city, but across the country. Christen Faatz said, "Larry Ayers proved to be one of the most adventurous of the bunch, braving briars to go after each and every piece of litter he could spot". The group of twenty collected trash from a 2-mile stretch in the park before heading back for a tour of the corporate office followed by a well deserved Happy Hour at Chops Steakhouse.

Make their Day!

One of the best ways for leaders to make someone's day - or month, or year, or life - is to show them how much you appreciate them. The simplest gestures, such as thanking people, recognizing their efforts and giving them a voice, fulfill emotional needs that are too often ignored on the job.

We would like to hear from you!
