CENTRAL LOUISIANA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BECOMES LOUISIANA'S NEWEST LEVEL THREE
WORKSITE WELLSPOT
The Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce has recently become Louisiana's newest Level Three Worksite WellSpot thought Well-Ahead Louisiana.  Well-Ahead Louisiana is a campaign started by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals aimed at improving the health and wellness of Louisiana citizens. Well-Ahead Louisiana promotes and recognizes smart choices in the spaces and places citizens live and work every day that make healthy living easier, from going tobacco-free to ensuring healthy lunch options or supporting workplace fitness programs.

Part of the Well-Ahead Louisiana campaign is the designation of places and spaces making choices and changes to make it easier for Louisiana citizens to live well. Once designated, these environments are called WellSpots.

Click here to read the Chamber's WellSpot Information Profile.

DHH staff will work closely with restaurants, schools, worksites, local governments, hospitals, and universities and colleges to help them identify and meet benchmarks for wellness. Once DHH staff verifies an organization has completed enough benchmarks they will be identified as a Level One, Level Two or Level Three WellSpot. Level One is the highest level of designation.

LSUA ANNOUNCES LARGEST ENROLLMENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY

ALEXANDRIA, LA - This fall, LSUA is reporting a total of 3,104 students, making it the largest enrollment in the history of the university.

The previous largest enrollment was 3,093 students in 2002.

"We are excited to see LSUA breaking enrollment records," said LSU President F. King Alexander. "Last year, we saw enrollment increase by more than 20 percent from the previous year, and seeing enrollment continue to grow shows that the university is serving and working to meet the needs of central Louisiana. This is a testament to the hard work of our students, faculty and staff at LSUA, and we look forward to continued growth in the future."

The 3,104 traditional and dual enrolled students make up a 14.88% increase over the 2,702 students enrolled in fall 2014 and a 39.01% increase over fall 2013.

"I am very proud of the effort that the faculty and staff have put in to increase our enrollment numbers," said LSUA Chancellor Dan Howard. "We are also very excited about the quality of the students who have chosen to attend LSUA and earn their degree from a fine institution. Unprecedented success in enrollment growth and quality of students at LSUA is attributable to the individual and collective actions of the entire campus community and the extraordinary support of the LSUA Foundation."

21 Principles to Guide Your Life & Business

Written by Billy Arcement, Contributing Writer,     The Business Journals

Most successful individuals have developed a clear set of guidelines to govern their behavior.

Christians use the 10 Commandments. Other religions have their own guidelines. We have local, state and federal laws to maintain a civil and safe society. There is no lack of guidance documents or ideas.

If you've never taken the time to develop some principles or guidelines on how you'd like to live your life, it's an exercise worthy of your time.

NEW BUSINESS-LED COALITION FOR A STRONGER ECONOMY LAYS OUT STRATEGIC PLAN FOR GROWTH IN LOUISIANA

More than 60 Louisiana business organizations have banded together to create the Coalition for a Stronger Economy, or CASE, in hopes of combining their influence to get public officials behind six strategies the group has created to help grow the state's business climate.

The six strategies are: accelerating growth in the private sector; adopting a pro-growth tax code; allowing more state spending; developing the state's growing workforce throughout early childhood and secondary education; building infrastructure to sustain economic growth; and improving the state's legal climate to help eliminate frivolous lawsuits.

"It is critically important for the future of Louisiana that the next governor and legislature work with the business community to adopt a pro-growth tax code and transform the state budget structure to allow for appropriate prioritization of spending. Our organization supports the 2016 CASE Agenda, and we look forward to being a part of the team to work with our elected leaders to implement these strategies," says Chamber President Deborah Randolph.

"Business and citizens across Louisiana are ready for a strategy that meets our state's challenges without sacrificing economic growth," says LABI President Stephen Waguespack in a prepared statement. "We believe the new Legislature and governor must seize the opportunity and take concrete action in these six areas to build a stronger economy, build jobs and bring prosperity to the state for years to come."

THE CENTRAL LOUISIANA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ENDORSES
CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS 1 & 2
The Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce has endorsed passage of Constitutional Amendments 1 and 2, which would dedicate existing state dollars to badly needed road and bridge projects without raising taxes.

Voters across Louisiana will get a chance to approve the measures in the October 24 election.

Constitutional Amendment 1 would direct some existing state mineral revenues into an account to be used only for transportation improvement projects. The amendment would create the Budget and Transportation Stabilization Fund, which would contain some of the funds that currently are being directed to the state's "rainy day fund."

Constitutional Amendment 2 would allow the state treasurer to invest existing, idle state funds into the Louisiana State Transportation Infrastructure Bank. The bank then could make low-interest loans to local and parish governments to plan and complete local and regional transportation projects. The Louisiana Legislature created the bank in the 2015 Legislative Session, and Constitutional Amendment 2 creates the mechanism to allow existing funds to go into the bank.

"We are excited about the breadth of knowledge these Commissioners will bring to the Board. With their proven capabilities, we know this will be a smooth yet rapid transition," said Central Louisiana Regional Port Executive Director Blake Cooper. "The Port has a lot of stimulating energy currently with the biofuels and biocarbon facility under construction as well as the participation of local tenants like DisTran and others who will ship via the Red River. There is much excitement as the Port, and we look forward to all that an expanded Port entity will bring to our community."
