Out & About
with TACC President & CEO Donna Duperron
Donna meets with the directors of Leadership Torrance 2016
I recently had the opportunity to have lunch with Domenica Megerdichian and David DeWitt (pictured above), the newly selected Directors of Leadership Torrance 2016.
Leadership Torrance is a program focused on developing effective leaders from across the South Bay. Sponsored by the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, it provides opportunities for emerging leaders to take an active role towards building a stronger community.
Leadership Torrance was envisioned as a way to create visibility for emerging leaders. The mission of the Leadership Torrance program is to develop effective leaders by encouraging community connections through partnerships with City officials and local businesses.
Domenica and David are extremely energetic and welcome the opportunity to lead the 2016 program. Through their leadership, an extraordinary program is being planned.
Congratulations are extended to Domenica and David for their commitment to this annual program.
In Anticipation of Today's Event...
Are you attending today's State of the City Address? If you have yet to read the Chamber's interview with Torrance Mayor Patrick Furey, now is the perfect time to brush up on what's to come in anticipation of today's event. The Chamber looks forward to seeing you there!

South Bay Cities Council of Governments
Mayor Patrick Furey was one of five panelists who spoke a press conference hosted by the South Bay Cities Council of Governments today. The press conference was held to launch the Green Building Challenge in Southern California. The Green Building Challenge is a tested and successful friendly online competition for businesses and buildings, designed to drive sustainable efficiency improvements, provide recognition opportunities and assist businesses with State emission reductions. Update on LA County Minimum Wage
The recently drafted ordinance increasing the LA County minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2020 in unincorporated county areas came before the Board of Supervisors for a final vote this month. TACC attended the meeting where the vote took place to testify one last time on the negative impacts the ordinance will have on businesses and consumers. Unfortunately, the ordinance passed. The TACC appreciates the efforts of its members to advocate on behalf of TACC businesses throughout this process.
TACC testified with member businesses at a County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors meeting this week. Left to Right: Brandon Matson (TACC), Donna Duperron (TACC), Chef Michael Shafer (The Depot and Buffalo Fire Department Restaurants), Bob Brandt (Red Car Brewery and Restaurant), John Schoen (Advertising and Marketing Network).
