Thanksgiving Poems

Thank you family for the love and care
The appreciation for you,
I cannot bear

Thank you teachers
f or the knowledge provided
Without you I would surely be misguided

Thank you law for the intent of order
You sometimes fail
But you set a border

Thank you freedom for the opportunity of choosing life's path
Without you I would be restrained to taking the chosen route
So thank you for the privilege to live on my behalf

Thank you November for the holiday devoted to showing my gratitude
Without you I would not get to show how grateful I am and would feel incomplete

Many thanks to all these things
And the list goes on

Time to De-stress
Finals are coming up, and this time of year gets stressful; so here are five simple ways to de-stress!
1. Exercise, stretch, or go for a walk! Giving your brain a mental break and resetting will make for better study time when the time comes.
2. Take a nap.
Sometimes our brains really just need a break. A lot of students don't get a lot of sleep, which means when it comes time to study, you won't be as efficient, so take a cat nap! (And don't forget to get a good night's sleep and a big breakfast before your exam).
3. Listen to music
Listening to music is a great way to take a break, and who doesn't love music!
4. Take a warm bath or shower
Yup, time to break out the bath bombs. A hot shower or bath increases the blood flow, which can help whatever is bothering you, and in the end, calm you down.
5. Try some deep breathing
Take about ten minutes in between study sessions to do some deep breathing. This will help calm you down and get you in a better state of mind. Just play some mellow background music, sit down, close your eyes, and take deep breaths through the nose and out of the mouth. Then clear your mind, focusing only on your breaths...

Hope these all help! Good luck on finals and don't forget to take a deep breath every now and then.

Some Halloween History

When we think of Halloween, pumpkins, costumes, candy and trick-or-treating come to mind. But why? Was the exciting October holiday always like it is now? How did it start? Halloween traces its origins back to a festival thrown in Ireland For Celtic New Year. The festival, Samhain, was celebrated when the sun set on October 31st and continued until sunset the next day. The New Year marked the end of the Harvest Season and welcomed the beginning of winter on November 1st. The start of a new year means new beginnings and a time to honor what will be left behind and to prepare for the future. On this night, it was believed that the dead's spirits would come to Earth as ghosts. Dedicated to deceased love ones, a ceremony was held. The dead were not ones you wanted to associate oneself with. Celts wore masks to disguise themselves as a ghost so they would look like friends and not be haunted by one. Food was left outside of their house to prevent evil spirits from coming in. The ritual included storing food for the winter, feasts, and bonfires. Halloween as we know it today began to take form in the middle of the 1800s in America. Similarly, Mexico has a Day of the Dead festival and Ireland has a celebration that lasts for two weeks. Halloween is mainly only celebrated on English centered countries.
