Dear Friends of Metro DC PFLAG,

It has been an amazing year so far. We have been doing great work and only look forward to the end of the year events as the holidays come up.

#GivingTuesday is December 1st. And we hope that you consider making a generous contribution to Metro DC PFLAG for the holidays.

Below is a survey for parents of LGBTQ teenagers. Please take time to complete to address better tactics for parents to build communication to prevent teenage suicide.
Transgender Day of Remembrance
Nationally, this is the 15th annual observance of the Transgender Day of Remembrance, which commemorates those who have been killed due to anti-transgender hatred. The 1998 murder of Rita Hester, a Boston transgender woman, sparked the Remembering Our Dead web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Rita Hester's murder, like most anti-transgender murder cases, has yet to be solved.

Survey for Parents of LGBTQ (teenagers)
Dear Parent,

This study will help to better understand the role of parental communication in reducing distress and suicide among LGBTQ youth.  LGBTQ youth are at a significantly higher risk for suicide across the nation. This study involves a brief survey questionnaire, which should take no more than 10 minutes.

Your participation in this survey is entirely voluntary and will be kept strictly confidential. The survey may also be stopped at any time without any penalty to you.  Below you will find a link to the survey.

We hope our study could help better understand the importance of parent-child communication in the development of projects addressing LGBTQ youth suicide. We appreciate the time you are taking to participate in the survey. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions.

Kindest regards,
A Huge Shout out to Catherine and Diego

We want to take this time to give a shout out to Catherine Hyde, PFLAG Howard-Columbia County, and Diego Sanchez, PFLAG National, for participating and speaking in favor of a Transgender Equality Task Force to the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus.

To read their full remarks, please visit pflag.org/trans.

PFLAG strongly supports the efforts of this newly formed task force, and we are proud that these two PFLAG leaders were invited to elevate the PFLAG voice on this historic day.

Thank You!
