Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

The late Roni Freer
Thank you to Roni Freer
Generous Estate Gift
When Roni Freer retired from her career as a college professor, she chose Sanibel Island largely based on her love for the "Ding" Darling Refuge. She was a regular visitor to Wildlife Drive, according to her family, and often lectured them on the importance of supporting refuges to protect the wildlife.

Roni's love of nature continued throughout her life as a teacher and college professor.  She enjoyed her summers off and often traveled by automobile throughout the United States, stopping to

Roni had the foresight to include the "Ding" Darling Wildlife Society in her will - so that her advocacy for wildlife and "Ding" Darling would survive her. Her legacy gift adds more than $20,000 to benefit the Refuge.  When planning your legacy, please consider a gift that will benefit this planet for generations to come. As 2015 is coming to a close, we are feeling nostalgic about some of our favorite memories from this past year. We would love to hear your favorites as well! Email us and tell us your stories.

This year we saw some great wildlife out on Wildlife Drive...

...we caught some glimpses of elusive friends with our trail cams...

...and we cultivated the minds of young conservation stewards.

What a year! Thanks to all those who have helped make all this (and so much more) possible.

Chinese Delegates Visit
Six wetland experts from China visited the Refuge on Monday, December 14, as part of a week-long delegation to Southwest Florida arranged by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Refuge in partnership with the Chinese State Forestry Administration. After a tour of the Refuge , the delegation enjoyed a dinner hosted by the "Ding" Darling Wildlife Society at the home of board member Mark Banks and his wife Gretchen. The visit, the result of a long-established exchange program between China and the U.S., aimed to demonstrate to the
Chinese officials how the wetlands are managed and preserved in Southwest  Florida.
