In this issue
  • New! Cotton/silk blends
  • New! Summer white on white shirting
  • New! Summery woven polka dots
  • Sew n Tell with Lois G

Sometimes, the fiber says it all. Cotton and silk blend is a delicate and richly luxurious fabrication. A very slight sheen reveals the silk content; the cotton speaks in the drape and soft hand. We have three of these fabrics in fab prints that take us back to the '60's!

Mrs Peel

cotton/silk

Large chocolate brown ovals encase a floating candy pink oval surrounded by the white ground. The regular rows are broken up when the fabric falls in soft folds. This fabric wishes to be a beautiful summer dress, a tunic or a delicate blouse. 75% cotton/25% silk.

Hexagons in aqua, mocha brown, candy pink outlined in chocolate brown form regular rows. When falling in deep folds, the regular pattern is masked and the beauty of the colors is dominant. Beautiful choice for blouses, dresses or tunics. 75% cotton/25% silk.

A pathway of white encases elongated key forms in black, charcoal, and light gray.  Stunningly sophisticated for dresses, camisoles or blouses with fullness.  75% cotton/25% silk.

blouse fabric

Delicate stripes of varied chain designs line this white on white cotton. Our customers never have enough of a classic like this shirting. You can choose a traditional shirt, a structured top, a fit and flare dress with a bodice and full skirt or a simple tunic. All will do well with this fine cotton jacquard.

cotton basketweave

Fun and whimsical, this soft cotton semi-basketweave is just right for a simple sheath dress or a vintage look fit and flare. The fabrication has body and is heavier than a shirting, but the soft hand will allow it to fall gently from waist.  If you prefer you could fashion a jacket with seams to break up the dots.  Deep green teal supports ivory dots the size of quarters.
Sew N Tell
with Lois G
Stoneham MA

A longtime friend of SB, Lois stopped in to shop recently and was wearing a top she made from her SB stash. Does anyone remember "Honeycomb" from the early 2000's?
the top is very cute and so nicely done, as always!

As told to Dixie:
The pattern is McCalls 6750 and the fabric is a sueded woven rayon called Honeycomb.
Lois tells us she prewashed the fabric and hung it to dry. She also said that it was a dream to work with and it accepted fusible interfacing very well. She finished the top off with Ovation buttons as you can see in the close up.

It may be an oldie but it sure is a goodie! Nice job Lois! Thank you for sharing.

Honeycomb  is sold out
