Class-Action Surge for 401(k) Advice
Be careful when advising employees regarding their retirement funds. 
All eyes may be on the Labor Department's fiduciary rule, but don't forget the courts. Eleven major class-action lawsuits were filed in federal courts around the country against 401(k) sponsors or providers of retirement products in the fourth quarter of 2015. All involve alleged fiduciary breach claims of, among other things, excessive fees benefiting service providers in violation of the Employee Retirement Income and Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). Industry Update 

Harvard Analysis Predicts New High for Remodeling Spending... National spending on home remodeling projects will hit a new high in 2016, another sign of a strong housing market, according to a new analysis from Harvard researchers. The projected spending this year, $155 billion, is expected to surpass the last spending peak of $150 billion a decade ago. Read more.

Existing Home Sales Weak Despite Good Job Numbers...
Sales of existing homes weakened at the end of 2015, despite ongoing good news for job creation. According to estimates from the National Association of Realtors, the seasonally adjusted volume of home resales declined 10.5% from October to November and were 3.8% lower than a year prior. This marked the first year-over-year decline since September 2014. However, much of this decline was attributable to new mortgage disclosure rules from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that likely resulted in delays for some sales.  Read more.

Missourians for Fair Taxation Gather in Jefferson City... This week, several mid-Missouri realtors have teamed up for a statewide effort on taxes. Missourians for Fair Taxation, a group made up of 20,000 Show-Me State Realtors, announced their support Thursday for a state constitutional amendment to stop sales taxes on services. Read more.
