THIS WEEK AT JAZZ BISTRO:
Toronto Blues Society presents Paul Reddick; Three Nights with the Russ Little Quintet; Sunday Cabaret with Lisa Particelli's All-Star Vocal Showcase.
As part of Toronto Blues Society's
Hump Day Blues Series: PAUL REDDICK
Wednesday January 27 from 8:00-10:30pm

Paul Reddick is a Canadian songwriter, singer, and harmonica player with three solo CDs, and four earlier projects with The Sidemen.
Juno and W.C. Handy Award nominated and a three-time Maple Blues Award winner, Reddick has always pushed the conventional blues envelope - he insists his new CD, Wishbone, is a soundtrack for dancing and sex. In many ways, Paul Reddick IS Wishbone, a mythical character who
walks through the night, meets all the lonely people, discovers strangers in strange places, and keeps moving.

Music Charge $10 ($8 for TBS Members)
Three Nights with the RUSS LITTLE QUINTET
Thursday, Friday, Saturday January 28, 29, 30 from 9:00-11:30pm

Veteran of some of jazz history's most illustrious big bands, Russ Little's enduring career spans more than four decades at the forefront of the North American entertainment industry. By 1968 he was touring with the Woody Herman Orchestra as lead trombone and featured soloist; later, with the Count Basie Orchestra, he filled a similar role. While touring with these famed jazz orchestras, he found time to become an original member of Canada's preeminent Rock Orchestra, Lighthouse, a band with which he continues to perform.
Through the early '70s, Russ Little performed in Rob McConnell's world-famous "Boss Brass", while also pursuing a very successful career as conductor/composer/arranger for the CBC, CTV and Global television networks in Canada. He was also constantly busy writing and conducting for NBC, ABC, General Motors, NFL Football, and the famed SCTV comedy series in which he worked closely for many years with John Candy, Eugene Levy and Martin Short.
A consistently busy session-musician throughout his career, Russ decided that after a lifetime spent performing on other people's CDs, it was time to create his own. The much-lauded Snapshot CD was the first result of that decision. His second album Footwork debuted in 2006 to critical acclaim and worldwide sales. Russ Little's eagerly-anticipated third CD, On the Shoulders of Giants (Rhythm Tracks), was launched in the Spring of 2008.

Three Thursdays: LAILA BIALI previews

Thursday February 4, 11, 18 from 9:00-11:30pm

"It is the ultimate task given to the musician, whether as singer or instrumentalist, to create a unique signature or fingerprint that is instantly recognizable as their own. What is surprising and delightful in Laila Biali is that both as vocalist and pianist she accomplishes this with equal aplomb. She is an exciting and unique talent, and I admire her greatly." - Sting.

Award-winning Canadian Jazz pianist, vocalist and songwriter Laila Biali has toured with Suzanne Vega, Chris Botti and Paula Cole and recorded with and supported Sting. She takes the best of pop, rock and soul, informs it with her knowledge of Jazz and weaves it into her musical arrangements. Laila's music has been presented at prestigious venues spanning four continents including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Tokyo's Cotton Club, Peru's El Festival Internacional de Lima, and Carnegie Hall in New York City. Her latest studio recording Tracing Light received a JUNO nomination for "2011 Best Vocal Jazz Album of the Year" and her most recent release Live in Concert, recorded live in February 2012 in front of a gracious audience at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, Canada, captures the spirit of live performance so essential to Jazz. Live in Concert was in rotation at 73 radio stations in North America. Laila is also a member of the all female New York based neo-Classical crossover quartet Rose & the Nightingale whose members tour with Grammy award-winner Esperanza Spalding. Her accolades include "SOCAN Composer of the Year" and "Keyboardist of the Year" at Canada's National Jazz Awards. She currently splits her time between New York City and Toronto.

Reserve now for our Valentine's Day Dinner & Show Package featuring JUNE GARBER and the MARK KIESWETTER TRIO!

Sunday February 14 from 8:00-10:30pm

When you watch June sing, you feel as if she is singing directly to you. Her warmth & unmitigated joy at being on stage envelopes you and pulls you close and encircles you with her warmth. Every song that she chooses to sing, connects to a base truth within - so there is never any artifice - only that which is true!   Her voice reflects each emotional shift that the writer intended. This is why she sings some of the most complicated and greatest songs ever written: Gershwin, Porter, Rodgers & Hart, Sondheim, Kurt Weill. Whether Growling Out "St. Louis Blues" or revelling in the pure tone of "Here's to Life" - her connection to each song is from her soul!
June was born in South Africa, but left there thirty two years ago to settle in Toronto. She performed in Theatres across Canada and has Equity & ACTRA Status. She has toured & performed as a singer in All of the Major Centres in North America i.e. New York, Dallas, Florida, Atlanta, Las Vegas & Atlantic City & also in Cuba, South Africa & Australia.
June's albums "Smile" and "Here's to Life" were both produced by Bill King; they have garnered rave reviews and extensive airplay around the world.
